Pavano decides to test free agency

Featured Replies

Long Term future of this franchise is uncertain.

You just can't expect such a fair weather sports area like S.Florida support Florida Marlins if the owner doesn't have the money to bring players in.

I bet the Marlins could draw well if some one like Mark Cuban own them. This town is full of fair weather fans and Marlins are too you young of a franchise to have a strong fanbase like the Dolphins.

I can understand why Carl's doing it. If I were him, I'd probably rather get paid $10-12 million per year and play in front of a guaranteed 40,000 fans and a team that will always make the playoffs as opposed to us. Money talks.

This is bad, bad news. Marlins need to resign him and not let him go, but this smells like Pudge all over again.

If anyone calls Pavano not loyal then you are a fool. You get in his shoes. He has never gottten a huge deal before, he is in his prime about to hit free agency for the first time. If the marlins offered you 5 and another team offered 10 which would you take? Its easy for everyone to sit back and say why did you take that money, well its easy to say because the money is not yours.

Agreed. I don't feel betrayed or anything by anyone who leaves this team via FA (INCLUDING Pudge). They're doing what's best for them. To expect anything less is to be naive.

This does explain why he doesn't want to start Sunday. He wants to be as marketable as possible. Ending the season with a 9-1 win is better than possibly losing and having a horrible ERA against the Phillies. His history as a pitcher is sketchy and he needs to cash in big on this one good year. If a team were to look past this one year, they would balk at paying too much. But I understand his position. He might not have any more good years, and needs to strike while the iron is hot.

Why not wait til the season is over before we start flipping out on him? Actions speak louder than words here.

I'm trying to stay true to the fact he'll be a Marlin but I hope he doesn't make me out to look like an idiot for believing he was loyal and defending that fact on here recently over and over.

You also told me you were positive that the Marlins were going to win the World Series this year. :plain

No Penny OR Pavano? That stinks. We better get Armando back if we can't get Pavano back.

I think what's hurtful is the guy did say previously "I'd love to stay a Marlin...blah blah blah". If anything, we should be mad at the front office for their inevitable inability to pony up money to stay competitive.

Didn't Pudge say something like that last season?

Lesson learned: Never believe a professional baseball player

Quit being naive. Like you wouldn't take more money and be on a team that you know won't be relocated or contracted where there's dedication by the city and ownership.

Some of you guys just don't get it.

With me at least it's not the problem of him not being loyal that is the biggest factor. It's the fact he alluded to the fact he would take less to stay here earlier. Why lie? He should've never said that.
