November 21, 200421 yr Both the Herald and the Sun-Sentinel report that Mike has received numerous offers and that the Marlins have yet to speak to him. Unfortunately, the Marlins will probably just go with Treanor or Willingham and pay them 300K rather than the million or more Red is gonna get somewhere else. Sad to see Red go. He's been with the Marlins since 1992! If for nothing else, I think he'll probably be missed the most in the clubhouse, as he was a funny guy that would keep everybody loose.

November 21, 200421 yr It would be disappointing to see Redmond go for a few $$$, for no other reason than he's a much better hitter (and competent game-caller) than almost any other 2nd string catcher in the bigs. That said, I understand it. I don't like it but I understand it.
November 21, 200421 yr We need more production than what he gives we can't always have someone who just keeps getting older backing up we need to give someone like treanor and willingham more of an opportunity our future isnt with redmond behind the plate, maybe with him on the bench coaching but not behind the plate. things have to come to an end sometime. November 21, 200421 yr What a bummer. And don't tell me "business is business." In any successful business, there are intangibles. Good businesses are not just numbers. We are throwing away one of the best catchers in baseball, a guy whose career BA is about 290. For what? To save 500,000 in favor of an unproven back-up catcher who will never add to the bench or the clubhouse what Red did... with heart and soul. Mike Redmond mattered.
