yea, but i dont to just get Dunn in return the Reds should gives something else to go along with Dunn

If anything we should have to give more. Dunn is a 50 HR hitter, why the hell would they have to give more?

Josh is barely a .500 career pitcher with a chronic blister problem who outsde of October 2003 has only shown a bit of being a lights out pitcher.

And AJ is already 30, I think, so he is in his prime now and still recovering from arm surgery and he is a solid ace. But Dunn is a stud.

Too bad Bora$ isn't Beckett's agent, he could make Beckett look like Nolan Ryan to other teams.

If any pitcher gets traded, it's going to be AJ. He's in the final year of his contract, and on more than one occasion he has stated he doesn't like pitching in PPS in front of 500 people and things like that, not to mention all the "I want to follow Pavano wherever he goes" comments. If we let him pitch the entire year with us, nomatter how well or poorly he does, he is GONE and we get nothing in return.

Perez would be a great pickup. Innings eater (196 last year) with good peripheral numbers. He only had 7 wins, but that's because he received the worst run support of any starter in the NL>

Whoever the Marlins sign, it should be someone who can go deeper (6-7 innings average) into starts. With Willis and Leiter mostly giving 5-6 inning efforts, they need some guys who can go deeper into games and give some relief to the bullpen, who could be taxed somewhat on nights Leiter and Willis start.

Now about that offense....

yea, well if the marlins sign him they probably have to offer him a three year deal worth 21 million

He would probably accept that. Think he would enjoy being on a staff with Beckett, Burnett, Willis and Leiter. Anyone know if he got along well with Mota, Lo Duca and Enc when they played in LA with him? If so, that will help us out too.

I doubt they offer him a three year deal, but 7 mil a year would do it. 2/14 would make more sense. 1/8 would be best, but he probably wouldn't go for that.

this is a good young left hander, that would be a great investment for the marlins. If he would have gotten decent run support he wins at least 15 games, and is a top free agent this year.

Never said he wasn't. I just don't know if they'll put up the same kind of years/money for Perez as they did for Pavano is all. Last year Perez was very good, the year before he was ok, and in 2002 he was great.

He does have better career numbers than Pavano, though.

If we do get another solid pitcher I think Beinfest should seriously pursue trading AJ or Josh and packaging Enc to get a power hitter for the middle of the lineup. (Dunn)

Bingo! Acquire Odalis Perez and deal Burnett in a deal for Dunn.

632451

that would be stupid, Beckett is the one that needs to go, and yes I know AJ is a FA next year

Beckett will make more this season and next year there is zero chance he returns. He does not like it hear and does not want to be here. Let's not goof this up...let's move people out that will just walk.

Why is there zero chance he returns next year? He won't be eligible for free-agency until after the 2006 season.

I'd love Big O. We would, however, be guaranteed to see back to back lefties 30 times a year. Interesting scenario.

And unfortunately, the FO is in a love affair with Josh as we've seen so if a trade is made after acquiring Big O, Burnett would be the one to go. It's the wrong move, but they'd do it like that.

I would take him, even though he made fun of me last year when the Dodgers were in town. :censored

I would love to get him! And I think us getting him is very contigent..

Although it would feel kinda weird to have 3 lefties...But I would just look at it as that we would have 5 great starters.

I dont care if we have 5 lefties in the roation as long as they are winning games.

632670

That's what I'm thinking... :)

The same thing goes for the lineup...

We don't NEED a lefty, we could get a righty who can do the job also!

He will cost us our first rounder, because he's a type-A and was offered arbitration. I'm not so sure I'm gung-ho on him as much anymore. If he comes cheap: 3/$15 I'm more in favor, but a one or two year deal for a 5th starter may not be worth the 16th pick in what is at least shaping up to be a deep draft.

Change anyone's opinion?

4 first round picks is still pretty good.

Are you sure? I believe he is a FA after this upcoming season.

Burnett is a FA after next season. Beckett still gets arbitration.
