December 29, 200421 yr Okay, since the Yankees are looking for a first baseman and some qulaity pitching I was pondering a deal that would look something like this. To Yankees: SP: AJ Burnett 1B: Jeff Conine RF: Juan Encarnacion To Marlins: SP: Kevin Brown SP: Javier Vazquez and Cash The Yankees would benefit by having a solid, "moral" figure in Conine. The Yanks have been flirting with Tino and Conine could fit their bill, minus the lefty bat. AJ would add youth to their rotation and Encarnacion is pretty much a toss in. The Marlins would benefit by having a tremendous pitcher in Vazquez who is under contract for a few more seasons and a return of a former Marlin, who when on target is unstoppable. Of course for this to happen the Yanks would have to eat a tremendous amount of salary. Yout thoughts?

We would fill out our rotation, but we would have huge holes at first base and right field. Plus, Brown is a loser. I would trade AJ and Enc. for Vaz and lots of cash though, if we could get an improvement at right field.
December 29, 200421 yr Author Brown only has 1 year left on his contract, so it is not too big of a risk. However, the Yanks would have to eat at least 7 -8 million of his $ 15 million salary
December 29, 200421 yr Author Yeah, the other part which I forgot to mention would be the signing of a RF. I strongly believe that Stokesy can step in if asked, and if not have a cheap security blanket.
December 29, 200421 yr I happen to like the deal. We get: 2 good pitchers and cash AND we lose Enc which is also good so we don't have to pay him for doing nothing we lose: 1 good pitcher and 1 good 1b
December 29, 200421 yr As good as it would be to get rid of Enc's money, why take on one pitcher who might not want to be traded and another who is a prima donna? I doubt Lorida would start handing out those charter jets that Brown likes.
December 29, 200421 yr Author Finally, If we do get the sttidum deal and the MArlins finicial future is stabilized I think that the Marlins might be willing to spend a bit more this year with the anticipation that alot of salaries are coming off the books next year, namely Hampton ( $11,000,000) If so we might be able to tempt Magglio into a 1-year deal at $10 Million??? Lineup would look something like this: 1. Juan Pierre 2. Luis Castillo 3. Mike Lowell 4. Miguel Cabrera 5. Magglio Ordonez 6. Paul Lo Duca 7. Alex Gonzalez 8. Jason Stokes 9. Pitcher Rotation: 1. Josh Beckett 2. Al Leiter 3. Javier Vazquez 4. Dontrelle Willis 5. Kevin Brown Brown in the 5th would be ideal due to his inconsistency now.
December 29, 200421 yr Author Why this works in my eyes. 1. AJ will not re-sign 2. We are not re-signing Conine after this year 3. We are looking to dump Encarnacion anyways 4. Brown, Leiter, Ordonez would be one year rentals and come off the books next year 5. We keep Vazquez on for a few more years
December 29, 200421 yr are u people serious????? DEALS LIKE THIS DON'T HAPPEN! Brown is over the hill and he has the attitude of a small infent. What i would do is Burnett for Vasquez and cash. I want people to please please stop with the maglio talk. We are not signing anyone to a 10 mil a year contract even for one year. come on guys be serious.
December 29, 200421 yr No thanks....Kevin Brown is a human injury bug.....This offseason is going to continue to be a dismal failure.
December 29, 200421 yr Author No thanks....Kevin Brown is a human injury bug.....This offseason is going to continue to be a dismal failure. 644208 It appears that way
December 29, 200421 yr No thanks....Kevin Brown is a human injury bug.....This offseason is going to continue to be a dismal failure. 644208 i would agree
December 29, 200421 yr Pending the cash, I'd love it. We'd have the best rotation in baseball, you could shift Miguel to first, sign an outfielder and bring one up. It wouldn't be all that bad...
December 29, 200421 yr ok someone please explain why why would the yanks do this??? Conine wouldn't start for them and neither would Encarnacion. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FRUSTRATION SETTING IN!
December 29, 200421 yr Nah first you can't trade Conine and second I don't think we are really getting anything that good in return. ANd it hinges on Maggs signing a one year deal. Someone is sure going to offer him a 3-4 year deal
December 29, 200421 yr I like the deal, but i dont think Jason Stokes is ready to be an everyday player in the majors.
December 29, 200421 yr Author ok someone please explain why why would the yanks do this??? Conine wouldn't start for them and neither would Encarnacion. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH FRUSTRATION SETTING IN! 644218 The Yanks are looking for a 1b. They are looking for loopholes in Giambi's contract to see if they can void it and they lost Olerud. If they sign Beltran, I doubt they would add Delgado. Makes sense for them. BTW they are looking at Tino Martinez now. Finally, they are looking to trade these two players anyways

Someone is sure going to offer him a 3-4 year deal 644219 Yes it hinges on this, but for any of this concoction to fall into place we would need a stadium deal in place
December 29, 200421 yr no thanks...cash is good but vasquez i dont know what to think about and brown is always hurt.
December 29, 200421 yr Whoever pointed out that the Yanks wouldnt do this is the only on thinking it through...As much as the Yanks would lov to rid themselves of Brown's attitude and contract Conine and Encarcion only create more problems. They are only looking at Tino because he is a popular choice for backup, he would make both the captain and the fans happy, and maybe make them forget about Giambi's "mistake". Vasquez on the otherhand is a far more consistant pitcher than AJ. I like AJ. I heard Peter Gammons once say that when hes in the strike zone he may have the most unhittable stuff in the majors. But that is a big if, and the Yanks are not looking ffor if's in their pitching staff. You also don't want Brown and Leiter in the same clubhouse. They will stir up too much bad blood for the manager, even if its Jack.
December 29, 200421 yr I'm going to through a curveball on this deal. Take out conine, put in stokes and add a prospect from the yankees. Otherwise we'd have to sign a RF and a 1B b/c i dont think stokes has what it takes to be in the majors. In fact i think we should trade stokes while he has prospect value instead of waiting and waiting until hes 27 like abe nunez and has no decent value
December 29, 200421 yr Author It seems that the members on the board are split down the middle on this one. Half said they'd do it, the other said no. Thank you for all your input
