Posted June 13, 200519 yr The offense has looked like it's finally coming around. JP is really starting to look like a shadow of his former self. He isn't far away. Mike Lowell is also looking like himself again. With him, our power should be up to an optimum level. Delgado is hot, hot, hot. We know what we're gonna get from Miguel Cabrera. Our offense still has the capability to be one of the best in the league talent wise. BUT, as I'm sitting in my bed watching baseball tonight, I see a man hit another home run for the Cincinatti Reds, and feel compelled to get all the way up to my family room to make this post. Ken Griffey Jr. is absolutely on fire. 40 RBI in his last 40 games. After his very slow start, he has 10 HR's and 34 RBI's since April 30. We've seen his average climb from .244 in April to .283 in May to .313 so far this month. We've also witnessed his OBP hike from .315 to .345 to .389. We all know the reds will trade him for the right offer. He's certainly not an "untouchable". He has shown no signs of injury up to this point. Juan Pierre is still in the .250 area. Junior is easily a better fielder. He would bring our power and slugging up to epic proportions. He would be an awesome mentor for Miguel Cabrera. He would put fans in the seats. He would bring a good feel to the clubhouse. I'm not sure how much the reds are willing to pay of his salary, but if it's enough... I Want Him.
June 13, 200519 yr Id rather give Willingham a shot in RF, with Enc in CF before we go around giving Jr a shot. I love Griffey but that pricetag is brutal
June 13, 200519 yr Who could we trade? Enc, Pierre, Willingham? All 3? Thats the problem there, who would we offer?

He might even have more than J-Willy since he's a pretty old prospect.
June 13, 200519 yr When I saw that 40rbi in 40 games stat in the bottom right hand corner of the screen during baseball tonight, I started salivating. This is Griffey we're talking about. His name still carries a lot of clout, and fans in south florida being fans in south florida, might hear it, remember who he is, and be somehow drawn to the ballpark. Plus his recent offensive tear has been downright gaudy. I'm glad to hear that I wasn't the only one who started thinking around those lines. On the other hand, he's another lefty (not that being a lefty is bad, i'm just considering our park), and unlike Delgado, Griffey is a dead pull hitter. The other thing that scared me off is that this IS Griffey we're talking about. He's about as sturdy as a skyscraper made of toothpicks and twine. Even though, from a personal standpoint, it would be phenomenal to see Griffey in a Marlins uni, I don't think it's the best baseball decision. (it would be wicked cool to see it happen though)

Mann, if we got Griffey I would probably have a heartattack. He is my favorite baseball player ever!
June 13, 200519 yr Griffey is too expenisve, injury prone, AND has had past problems wiht our manager Mckeon. No way htis gets done.
June 13, 200519 yr Griffey and McKeon are like oil and water. Remember "the stare" last year? There's bad blood there, so no way that would happen. It doesn't hurt to have wishful thinking though.
June 13, 200519 yr I still think he'll end up with Atlanta if they can send enough prospects to Cincy for him. Maybe include Wilson Betemit.
June 13, 200519 yr I'm not going to argue the Enc/Pierre centerfield thing but it would give me some comfort if the Isotopes/Marlins organization would start giving Willingham some playing time in right field.
June 13, 200519 yr Unless we get a serious upgrade like Dunn or anyone like that, we should try Willingham, because he sure as hell deserves a shot, and in terms of offense could produce a lot more than ENc, who is pretty much playing up to his peak so far this season. Willingham has potential to be much better, and Enc is not in the Marls longterm plans anyway.

RF is a demanding position, and Cabrera is not going back to RF.

June 13, 200519 yr The whole lotta cash is way too much for the Marlins too work out a deal for, and Griffey will get hurt again this year. It's not worth it.
June 13, 200519 yr we have a log jam in the outfield as it is. We dont need another older outfielder. If we were gonna go for Griffey. I rather try for Wells instead. Now to say that he isnt fun to watch play, or wouldnt draw fans in it or out of it. But, it aint gonna happen. This is like posting we are gonna trade for Barry "Steroid head/raciest jerk" Bonds
June 13, 200519 yr I wonder if the Cubs are losing patience with Corey Patterson... I'd love to see him on the Marlins
June 13, 200519 yr If we could get Griffey... oh my god. He's my favorite player of all time second only to the great hammerin Hank Greenberg. I just don't see it happening though, the Marlins just can't take that big of a risk on him.
June 13, 200519 yr We should have a poll on whether or not Griffey will make it to the break without a major injury. He's way too injury prone.
