Beckett 7-4 3.13 ERA Mitre 1-1 4.83 ERA

Game Time: 8:05 PM ET

TV: Florida: FSN Chicago: WGN

Radio: Florida: WQAM 560 Chicago: WGN 720

Stat of the Day: Mitre's only appearance against the Marlins was in relief. He gave up 4 runs in 1 2/3 innings. An ERA of 21.60

Marlin Watch: The status of third baseman Mike Lowell is uncertain for Tuesday. Lowell jammed his ankle sliding into third base after being tagged out trying to advance on a slow grounder. If Lowell doesn't play Tuesday, he should be ready Wednesday. Damion Easley would fill in.

Scouting Report:

After sailing along, giving up one unearned run (two total) through six innings, Beckett's ERA skyrocketed after he was charged with six runs in the seventh inning in a loss to Seattle in his last start. Beckett is 2-3 with a 4.01 ERA in six road starts this season.

Mitre is coming off his best start. Against Toronto, he threw seven scoreless innings, giving up two hits and walking one. "It's about time," Mitre said after the game. The young right-hander also struck out six. This will be his fifth start. He's 1-0 with a 3.72 ERA in three starts at home.

Dominant starting pitching has been the key to Florida's success early on.

Josh Beckett hopes to follow Dontrelle Willis' lead and bounce back from his worst outing of the season as the Marlins resume their three-game series against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field.

Beckett, who is 7-4 with a 3.13 ERA, has allowed three runs or less in 11 of his 13 starts.

The hard-throwing righty was roughed up for eight runs -- seven earned -- and 10 hits in 6 2-3 innings of an 8-0 loss to the Seattle Mariners on Thursday. The 25-year-old Beckett lost at home for the first time in six decisions this season.

The Marlins won the series opener 9-1 behind another strong outing by Willis. He pitched seven strong innings to become the first 11-game winner in the majors.

Willis gave up one run and seven hits, struck out five and walked none. He also had two hits and drove in a run in the fifth, when Florida broke open the game with seven runs.

``He's the stopper, the savior and everything else,'' Marlins manager Jack McKeon said. ``I don't care whether we start him or DH him.''

The Cubs have lost two straight to fall to 3-3 on their eight-game homestand.

Third baseman Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double Monday to raise his batting average to .284. Ramirez is hitting .357 (15-for-42) in 11 games this month after hitting just .241 in April and .289 in May.

Stat of the Day:

Carlos Delgado in June 2005:

He's finally getting out of his slump and now he gets hurt. Meh. Hopefully he plays today.
