June 17, 200521 yr Its sad when our team is doing a great job as off the 2003 season but we still are averaging almost lowest attendance out of all the teams. Whats wrong with south florida that we can't support our own team. heres the link to the attendances http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/attendance
June 17, 200521 yr earlier in the season i remember we were like 20th but since then, it has all gone down hill, why though? :confused :confused :confused
June 17, 200521 yr I say its fine...I mean it is pretty damn disappointing people don't get their ass out there, but from previous years they are good. If the Marlins stay in the race they could easily crack top 20 by the end of the year
June 17, 200521 yr I think some of it can be attributed to the Heat's recent run -- very little media attention has been given to the Fish because of it. The usual factors (rain, heat, location etc) also always go into the numbers when talking about attendance figures down here. The attendance figures should rise from here on out I suspect....I'm not trying to make excuses, but we should all be used to the patterns by now. Come time for the stretch run, Dolphins Stadium will be packed -- its the Miami way.
June 17, 200521 yr Well, we get respected on the road.. 33000 avg. when on the road 813679 I think its either the highest or top 5...thats impressive as for the attendance issue I personally think its location. I know if I give a specific location one of the three counties is going to be upset.
June 18, 200521 yr We aren't in first place and we have been in a huge slump, not to mention the fact that Miami is the largest bandwagon town on earth and having the Heat go deep into the playoffs certainly didn't help. Just watch, we'll go on a 10 game winning streak and all of a sudden all these "life long" fans will start popping up again.
June 18, 200521 yr Anyone who wants to know what's wrong with the Marlins attendance only need to listen to WEEI-AM in Boston for one day. WEEI (and it isn't the fans it's the media) pays more attention to baseball in one week in Boston than all the media in South Florida do in a year. When you have a morning drive time on your flagship station that's dominated by a Fatberg and the afternoon talk with a neanderthal like Mandich there simply is no way to enthuse the populace to baseball and the Marlins. Jim Mandich's idea of what's a doubleplay is to get two Green Lizard's for the price of one. Almost more than a new stadium (and I'm not saying they don;t need a new stadium because I freakin hate PPS) what the Marlins need is a new broadcast home where they are (pardon the pun) the BIG FISH. I say it again, listen to WEEI for ONE DAY (from the first thing in the morning to the last word at night) and you'll come back and say damn he was right. You can't build a fan base without enthusiam and sports talk radio is at the very core of that. I would also point out that the rankings aren't as bad as it might appear. We are an average of 1,000 fans a night from being in the top 20.
June 18, 200521 yr the keyword is bandwagonders 813712 Exactly. I'm surprised at the Giants. They stink this year, and are missing two HUGE players in Barry and Mando but are still drawing strong. You think its because they have a beautiful new stadium, waterfront, in a good location???? Perhaps...

How terrible is it that if you listen to the radio station which AIRS the game, the only Marlins talk you hear is negative talk? This is such a great team, and we are blessed to have a really generous and committed owner at the moment, yet still unless you listen to Boog on 790, you won't hear a word spoken that supports the Marlins. People bash the fans but I think the sports writers and talk show hosts are just as much to blame.
June 18, 200521 yr It's not August yet 813751 a bit above 22k average right now, come August that will spike much higher. BTW, we are less than 10 games away from the One Million Mark for 2005 if those games draw the average.

June 18, 200521 yr WQAM will see changes soon enough. The ratings slide for 560 during non-Marlins timeslots is apparent. Although 790 hasn't seen any ratings bump in a long time.
June 18, 200521 yr Actually, I haven't been as upset with the attendance this year as I have in years past. Maybe I haven't been paying attention to it much.
June 18, 200521 yr Look at the stats from 2002 or even 2003. We are doing much (appx twice) better than those years. The team (despite two championships) is stilll the young gun in the sports market here. Still, I am sure it will pick up as we make a run for the division. :thumbup
June 18, 200521 yr While we are still near the bottom of the league, attendance is up again this year. This even with the steep hike in ticket prices. It's a good trend and will get better if we are in the playoff hunt at the end of the year. Let's face it, we would have to average around 30K a game to be middle of the pack, and we have a ways to go to get to that.
