Posted June 20, 200519 yr Boston Globe "You can tell by the plethora of scouts converging in one spot -- as they did Thursday in Pawtucket, when representatives of the Cubs, Giants, Blue Jays, Marlins, Mariners, Angels, Reds, and Indians were on hand for the PawSox-Columbus game -- that trade season has officially begun." http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds...all_into_place/ Los Angeles Times For prospects, one could have just about any Colorado Rocky, including Jason Jennings and Joe Kennedy. Even while contending, the Toronto Blue Jays will consider offers for Ted Lilly. Mark Redman and/or Kip Wells can be had from Pittsburgh... If one's general manager is nostalgic for the 1990s, it appears Florida would part with Al Leiter and Tampa Bay would offer Hideo Nomo." http://www.latimes.com/sports/baseball/mlb...orts-mlb-angels Newark Star-Ledger Pittsburgh closer Jose Mesa... said last week that he'd accept a trade to an East Coast team if that team would allow him to close games and pick up his $4 million contract option for 2006. The Marlins are the most likely East Coast team to meet the first requirement, though the second could be a sticking point for them." http://www.nj.com/columns/ledger/graziano/...ll=1&thispage=2 Miami Herald "Marlins shorts: An opposing GM said Florida's trade talks have focused on relievers, with Juan Encarnacion dangled. " http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/11933006.htm Just some stuff to chew on.
June 20, 200519 yr Bringing Mark Redman back would be interesting. I'd imagine he would come relatively cheap and he has pitched fairly well so far this year
June 20, 200519 yr Redman and Mesa for Encarnacion would be a great deal for the fish on the condition that they don't have to pick up Mesa's four-million dollar option next season.... Even though I luv the role that Jones has played as closer...he has done the job :whistle
June 20, 200519 yr IMO the Marlins are waiting till Zach Day comes off the DL(May26th)healthy to pull the trigger on the Juan Encarancion/Zach Day deal

June 20, 200519 yr Redman and Mesa for Encarnacion would be a great deal for the fish :whistle 818344 and the Pirates slam the phone while laughing in our faces
June 20, 200519 yr redman and mesa would cost a few prospects like dillion, and willy and perhaps someone else
June 20, 200519 yr IMO the Marlins are waiting till Zach Day comes off the DL(May26th)healthy to pull the trigger on the Juan Encarancion/Zach Day deal 818352 Why would the Nationals want Encarnacion? I don't see that as an upgrade for Guillen or Wilkerson.
June 20, 200519 yr redman and mesa would cost a few prospects like dillion, and willy and perhaps someone else 818434 Nobody wants Dillon. He isn't a prospect anymore. Mark Redman might be traded but it will take a prospect or 2 to get him. He has a 2.80 ERA and would look good in our rotation next to Moehler. They both deserve more wins than they have.

Is he worth Willingham, Stokes, Olsen, Johnson or lower tier prospects??
June 20, 200519 yr I am starting to like the Encarnacion for Zach Day trade. I'm not a big fan of Day but we stole Pavano from the Expos and maybe we can steal Day now. Is there anything better out there than Day? I think Redman is better but I doubt the Pirates want Juan Encarnacion. Day is (19-21) in his career with a 4.31 ERA. He doesn't have overpowering stuff (finesse pitcher). He doesn't strike people out but he doesn't allow that many hits. I think he can be a decent #5 pitcher but I would rather go after a guy like Redman, who had his best season with the Fish.

Even though I luv the role that Jones has played as closer...he has done the job :whistle 818344 Hell, I'd take just Redman for Encarnacion. I still don't think the Pirates would fall for that though. I want no part of Mesa. I don't see him performing well for a team trying to make the postseason. 818559 And for a team who already has a great closer.
June 21, 200519 yr I would love to have Big Red back as a Marlin. I have always said that he is the only player from 03 that was never replaced, the Marlins havent had a 2nd lefty in the rotation since he left and I would gladly give up Carny for him.
June 21, 200519 yr If we somehow trade to get Redman what would we do with Lieter, pen or trade? (assuming Beckett comes back and we have Red, AJ, D-train, Moehler) I would love to see Enc gone and him + a prospect would be a good deal for Redman, better then Day. I'd also like to see if we can pick up a relatively cheap bat that could give a little spark to the offense if one exists out there. Are we dangling mota at all or does no one want him?
June 21, 200519 yr I wonder if Miguel Batista is on the block 818658 Me too. He'd be a good fit.
June 21, 200519 yr I wonder if Miguel Batista is on the block 818658 Me too. He'd be a good fit. 818837 I doubt it. The Blue Jays really expect a lot out of him now that they've given him an easier job in the closing role. Their GM likes him a lot: I think our guys know he'll take the ball and there's a definite confidence there. We're trying to figure out how to get 25 to 40 saves out there. We feel more comfortable with a guy like this than anyone else we have. It's the guy who's the best fit for us. -Blue Jays GM J.P. Ricciardi, on Miguel Batista They like having a reliable veteran to get the last 3 outs, so I don't think they'll give him up,... unless we offer them a good starter, which we won't.
June 21, 200519 yr when zach day is going good he is a solid #3 guy and he's young.....it would be great to get him in return for ENC also free's up space for conine and maybe dillon to play more......we'd also see aguila called back up. I'd love to see Day in a Fish uni
