Nate Bump

Featured Replies

I found it a little odd that during all the talk around the trade deadline that the local sportswriters pretty much disregard Nate Bump as a valid option out of the bullpen for the 7th inning. Is it just that he hasn't had a lot of experience? Because after his first appearance, a tough outing against the Red Sox, he's gone 15 innings & only given up 4 runs...not too shabby. He looked great against the Astros last night, pitching the 7th and 8th.

I don't know if he has the stuff or not, I know it's taken him a while to get up to majors and get his shot.

But so far he's done a decent job and it looks like he's getting his chance to prove himself.

That's good.

It's his sinker.

He doesn't have a sinker...

2-seam fastball that has a lot of movement...

Yea he throws a 2 Seamer that moves alot but that is still considered a sinker....

It doesn't move like a sinker. It moves like a very good 2-seam fastball should. I've never heard anybody consider it a sinker, because it doesn't look at all like one.

I've heard people mistake Urbina's slider for a splitter, but never Bump's 2-seamer for a sinker...

Bump's two seamer is his sinker...it tends to break bats and also induces ground balls. Great for double plays!!

But it's not a sinker. It neither looks nor breaks like a sinker.

sinker ? umm it his 2 seam fastball A 2 Seam Fast ball is a sinker....thats the Original Grip for a sinker.

So Greg Maddux's fast ball is a 2 seamer and it isnt a sinker?

No it's considered a sinker.

But technically it is a 2 seam fastball.

And SportsCenter what do you know about anything?

Exactly.

I'm not a pitcher, and I know AJHeat100MPH is. I don't know the grips of all the pitches. Just the basic 4-seam and curve and slider. BUT, Bump's 2-seam fastball does not break the same way a normal sinker does.

Well, I don't know as much about pitches as pitchers would, but I'd say I know a little bit since I am a catcher. Bump's pitch isn't exactly a sinker, but it gets close. Besides, I haven't seen Pudge have to drop his glove to basket catch it the way some sinkers have to be caught.

I am also a catcher.

His 2-seam moves from the inside corner to the middle of the plate, and drops a little. Kinda like Looper's 2-seam, just not as hard.

instant classic.

huh?
