June 30, 200521 yr This was posted on ESPN.com not my idea at all but it sounds good to me but it looks like the rockies are getting the worst end of this.................. I have a friend who is a Yankees fan in N.Y. who said he heard this on some radio show. I don't remember what station since I'm not from N.Y. Please don't take it serious since it is only a rumor, but interesting at the same time. I think there were other players involved but these were the one's who stood out. Marlins Get: RF Gary Sheffield P Kevin Brown along pitching prospects Marlins move Cabrera to 3B and bring up Jeremy Hermida, Dillon or Conie to LF. Yankees Get: RF Juan Encarnacion CF Preston Wilson 1B Todd Helton Rockies Get: 1B Jason Giambi 3B Mike Lowell CF Tony Womack What do you guys think? 833462 The Rockies would never do that. Giambi is the worst defensive 1B in baseball and Womack sucks. 833464 I am sorry i posted this you guys........ this is crap.................there is no way this would happen. Didnt mean to waste your time.

June 30, 200521 yr This would be a huge mistake. There is no way our bats will stay dead for this whole season, look at the talent we have on offense. Getting rid of AJ would take us right out of the playoff hunt.
June 30, 200521 yr if it was beckett id to it in 2 seconds. 833118 I agree. Look Burnett is gone next year no matter what. Look at what happened with Carl Pavano, the Yankees get anyone they want because let's face it, to most players the money means more then the game. Gary Sheffield was always my favorite Marlin although his comments last night regarding his attitude if he were to be traded do concern me a bit. But I would like to point out, look at the year Pavano is having, nothing close to last year. I say we trade Burnett and Encarnacion for Pavano and Sheffield...only in a perfect world of course :confused . According to the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel, the Yankees are also eyeing outfielder Juan Encarnacion of the Marlins. Juan C. Rodriguez of the Sun-Sentinel, citing a National League source, reported the Yankees have inquired about Encarnacion and that that interest could intensify if they can't pry Mark Kotsay, considered their top target, from the Oakland Athletics. The A's, however, have not indicated Kotsay is even available at this point. Like most teams, Oakland is still in the process of deciding whether to buy or sell or stand pat. According to the paper, the Marlins would likely receive reliever Paul Quantrill from the Yankees in exchange for Encarnacion with the Yankees likely picking up all or most of the remaining $1.57 million of Quantrill's 2005 salary, plus the $400,000 buyout of a 2006 club option they have already declined.
June 30, 200521 yr Perhaps I have too much confidence that absent AJ, Admin Beinfest isn't going to sit there and bask in the glory of landing Gary Sheffield, he's going to go out there and find a replacement, and a good one. You don't go get a Gary Sheffield without a plan to replenish your starting crew. You don't rob Peter to pay Paul. Beinfest is too smart for that. 833461 I gotta agree with you here. If somehow the Sheff deal goes down, I'd like to believe Beinfest goes after one of the Rockies available pitchers (Kennedy, Jennings, or possibly Chacon) in order to attempt to fill the void left by AJ. Pittsburgh I don't think would be ready to sell yet, as they've got a month before the deadline, and Beane insists that Zito isn't moving anywhere. Really no one on the trade market, save Clemens (who has zero chance of being traded here) would fill AJ's spot. The rotation would be depleted, for sure, if the deal were to happen, but the offense would improve tremendously, and the Marlins would get more than a few first rounders for A.J. and Enc. Interesting dilemma if this rumor is true. I'd feel alot more comfortable with the proposed deal if Sheff was 5 years younger and/or not as likely to demand an extension if traded.

June 30, 200521 yr This would be a huge mistake. There is no way our bats will stay dead for this whole season, look at the talent we have on offense. Getting rid of AJ would take us right out of the playoff hunt. 833521 Well so far our bats have been pretty dead for about two and a half months and if they can stay dead that long I have no problem believing they will remain dead for a good chunk of the season. Lets face it something needs to be done. The Nats are blowing everyone away right now and the Braves are still the Braves, despite no Chipper or Hudson. This is one of those tough situations. Burnett won't be back and anyone who thinks he will is in serious denial. But lets look at a few possible scenarios. #1. Burnett doesn't get traded, fail to make playoffs. Most we get out of this is 2 draft picks for one of the top 25 pitchers in baseball. #2. Burnett doesn't get traded we make playoffs. Very good, a chance to add a third ring to our collection. Problem is Burnett is still gone for 2 draft picks and if 06' our rotation is weaken. Sure we have prospects but they still need time to develop. #3. Burnett gets traded. Obvisouly it depends on what we get for him, but unless Beinfeist took some of that ganja when he agreed to a deal you can be certain it will be for more then a summer rental otherwise it would defeat the whole purpose of moving Burnett. Weather its for Sheff or whoever, it would be almost certain they'd be back in 06'. So make the playoffs and trade Burnett fine great, not only that but we're still strong for next year. Trade Burnett and fail to make playoffs, still got alot more out of his departure and beacuse me make one blockbuster trade doesn't mean we can't make another one to replace A.J. Plus I like having the ability to have a little control over where he goes, I'd end up having a stroke if I watched him sign with the Mets, Nats, Cubbies, or those hellspawned Braves.
June 30, 200521 yr If you don't take risks like this you'll never win a championship..I look at it this way last year we had pretty much the same rotation and pavano was the best pitcher in it and he took us nowhere..So why don't we take a damn risk and acquire sheff,if we make the playoffs then that'll be awesome and if we don't then hey what the hell you can't blame the F.O,they did everything possible to win it all.
June 30, 200521 yr I really have a problem going after Sheff though, first his comments and the fact I don't want him coming here bringing everyone down even further down then we already are. I have no problem giving him an extra year or a couple extra dollars if the Yanks are willing to take a bulk of the original contract AND if he has no problems coming back to Florida. If he doesn't have a problem and can play like the SHeff we all know and love then I say we go and roll out the red carpet for him.
June 30, 200521 yr You really think Jack is going to have a problem with Sheff? Between McKeon and Loria he'll get lovebombed big time. Jack knows how to show respect to a future hall of famer like Sheffield. Not to mention that big ring bling thing he'll be sportin'.
June 30, 200521 yr The sheff made his comments when the rumors were floating of him going to the mets. I dont know if that had anything to do with the Marlins. I am sure if they were going to do a trade the marlins would talk to the shefield first to make sure its ok with him. How old is the sheff?

June 30, 200521 yr It seems a good trade, AJ and Encarnacion for Sheffield and Gordon. This is good for both teams. We have the prospects to go out and get another starter to replace AJ.
June 30, 200521 yr Sheff is a complete nutcase while Id love to have him, these quotes he is shooting off are a bit of a turn off but a Cabs-Delgado-Sheffield, 345 looks perdy
June 30, 200521 yr Age just doesn't seem to be a huge factor in hitters anymore. Look at Delgado, Bonds, Sheff is still tearing up the ball. Griffey isn't doing to bad, and Kents up there in years too. His age isn't my worries, it's that attitude he seems to have gotten. I was kinda hoping that he might look at Florida as an exception since he's from here, won a ring here, and has a better chance winning another here then as a Yank but I guess thats just hopeful wishing. Any chance instead of Sheff maybe we could pry Matsui away, numbers are similar and Matsui is an RBI machine, something we need desperatly.
June 30, 200521 yr How old is Andruw Jones? 833705 28 I think. But we don't deal with terroists... I mean the Braves.
June 30, 200521 yr How old is Andruw Jones? 833705 28 I think. But we don't deal with terroists... I mean the Braves. 833711 LOL! No, I wasn't suggesting we try and trade for him, I just thought he was older. Didn't know he was only 28. It's like A-Gonz, feels like he's been around forever.
June 30, 200521 yr Our offense is very good and should be enough to carry a team into the post season even with a average staff. We have an excellent staff and the offence will write itself and start consistently winning ballgames! That's what we've been hearing all season and it just ain't happening. We need another bat and adding Sheffield in my opinion would give us a lineup second only to the Cardinals in the NL. Face it guys, we are losing AJ in the summer and it isnt even guareenteed we'd get a first round pick for him. Stick with the current team and I don't think we'll make the playoffs, add sheffield at the cost of a departing pitcher and a RF most of us dont even like and we have as good a chance as any to win it all. And not just this year but the year after and possibly the year after that if we can keep the team together. Concerns are being voiced about Sheffield's attitude. But I believe he's blowing hot air because this is his only leverage (he obv wants to stay a Yankee) as he has no no-trade clause. The puts fears in the minds of GMs that he won't try. But GS is a competitor who wants to win and when he realises he's been traded to a real challenger, he'll give it his all. I'd be very excited about our chances of winning the world series and establishing ourselves as a legitimate franchise if we managed to put Gary Sheffield in that lineup. There...theres my rant!

And thats true about Sheff, he is a serious competitor and I don't think he can watch himself turn into complete crap for to long. And again he's from Florida, he had no problems what so ever playing here minus that pesty little fire sale. Question is do we risk it, cause it is an all or nothing move.
