June 30, 200521 yr One GLARING coaching mistake was made in the 11th (not sure on the inning). Lo Duca was on 3rd and the infield was drawn in. A grounder was hit to second and instead of Lo Duca staying on 3rd he tries to run home. EASY out at the plate and now the Marlins have a runner on first and no one in scoring position. Why not lleave Lo Duca at 3rd because you KNOW there is not a chance in hell he is going to score on that gronder to 2nd. Give up the out at first. You stil have a runner in scoring position. I don't know who gave him the green light and I highly doubt Paul would run on his own because he is a smart ball player. Note: I have a horrible memory for details so I am not sure what the inning was, who was at bat (i think it was Enc and Lo Duca hit a double) and I'm not sure on the out situation (I think Lo Duca hit a lead off double and moved up to third on a balk). But I do remember how pissed I was after that play.
June 30, 200521 yr I dont wanna hear it today, it is a day for happiness for a great game that we won. It can become a cornerstone of the season not a negative moment.

June 30, 200521 yr ya seriously. it was a perfectly good call...hit and run. Gonzo hit it to the right side of the infield it was a good call. Stop bashing on the team after they pull a extra innings win. We need to be happy that we won a damn game. obviously this proves that we have a chance of winning in close situations. It reminds me of the 2003 marlins all over again. Heart attack Marlins! Ya Ya Ya....Everybody's doing the fish.....Ya Ya Ya....Everybody's doing the fish....Ya Ya Ya....Everybody's doing the fish
June 30, 200521 yr With a runner on third and a grounder hit to the right side you run home. Baseball 101. Whether told by a coach or whether he did it himself it was the proper running play. Shiite happens :hat
June 30, 200521 yr He was going on contact, when you go on contact you don't wait to see how hard or where the ball was hit -- you just go as soon as bat meets ball. There is nothing wrong with that.

June 30, 200521 yr I would have put in Willis to pinch run. 833273 That's why your managing duties are held to the confines of this website.
June 30, 200521 yr It was a good call. But I thought if he would have pretended to run and go back to third if both runners would have been safe if Giles had hesitated. Or I thought Paul should have knocked the crap out of Estrada.
June 30, 200521 yr On the contrary this was one of the better-coached games in a while. Your post has nothing at all to do with the Braves anyway so I have no idea where you get "outcoached" from.
June 30, 200521 yr Couple all of kevins points with the fact that our O has been slumping, so sitting back and relying on a hit isint exactly the best idea. Hell, if he wouldve stayed he wouldnt have scored that inning!
June 30, 200521 yr If anything Cox outcoached Freddi Gonzalez. If you recall Gonzalez held up Estrada in the 13th on a ball that skirted into short center. Alex and Luis were lying on the ground when Gonzalez held up what would have been an add on run. In the bottom of the 13th Cox sent Cabrera on a hard hit single to right challenging Langerhan's arm.....in what turned out to be the game winning run.

I think he could have scored on that. Whatever worked out for the best...at least this time.

In the situation you were talking about there was 1 out with Lo Duca on 3rd and Alex Gonzalez batting. Now the proper play in that situation would be to put the contact play on (which was done) for several reasons. 1. it forces the defense to make a perfect play, any bobble, slip, or play in the hole most likely means the run scores.2. even if the defense does catch the ball cleanly they still have to make a decent throw to the catcher with a runner running full speed at him. 3 Lenny Harris was on deck and although suprisingly he has had a good 1st half, he's still no cabrerra or Delgado.. So bottom line was the manager made the right decision and i personally thought he did a great job in a game that he had to make a lot of decisions.

What are you talking about? And he's a completely different player than Cabrera or Delgado...
June 30, 200521 yr #1 lenny harris wasn't in a pinch hitting situation so i dont wanna hear about how many pinch hits he has #2 if cabrerra or delgado or lately the play of castillo then u might think of taking off the contact play since they have proven to be good hitters and could get a basehit to win the game but Lenny Harris? no thank you i'll try to force the situation by putting on the contact play and apparently the manager agreed with me!
June 30, 200521 yr The fact that Lenny Harris is the all-time leader in pinch hits just illustrates that he is a clutch hitter. He doesn't have to be in a pinch-hitting situation in order to hit the ball!! Also, tell me where you get the impression that I think it was the wrong decision to send Lo Duca home?
June 30, 200521 yr you go on contact. its simple baseball. as Admin pointed out. maybe if juan and enc hadnt been total failures at that point it wouldnt have mattered. some of you need to actually learn baseball before you go spouting off idiocy of which you know little about.
June 30, 200521 yr Or I thought Paul should have knocked the crap out of Estrada. 833300 I was wondering why he didn't at least put his spikes into him with a slide. Oh, well. Didn't hurt us so I don't care.
June 30, 200521 yr your right you never stated anywhere that you thought that was the wrong play. I appologize for that. It's good to see someone who can actually talk baseball and know what their talking about. Sadly a lot of people on this board couldn't even tell you what the contact play is.

June 30, 200521 yr He didn't quote you, and if you generally agree with what he's saying (which in fact is the correct read on the play) why are you so upset? 833663 I believe it's pretty clear he was talking to me. I took issue with what he said about Lenny Harris, that's why I only addressed that part of his post.

June 30, 200521 yr Look Buddy, what the hell are you being so difficult about? He responded to Musk, I took issue with a part of his response and thus he started corresponding with me.
