Valyekrin
I just needed to post this to thank Guillermo Mota for stepping up, and getting out of his little baby fit to help solidify our bullpen. Mota has played so well lately that we might have even saved ourselves from trading Encarnacion or some minor league prospects for some relief pitchers in the bullpen. Glad to see the pen is righting itself, and hopefully from now on the 8th and the 9th innings will be shut down for the remainder of the season. Everlong204
Mota is one of the best setup men in baseball, i dont think he has the mentality to close, but he sure can pitch the 7th or 8th...he is valuable to this team but not as a closer, he will make his mark as a setup man
NirvanaNole
I was going to start a thread on Mota. It looks like him and Pierre are out of their slumps. :thumbup

PBMarlin
Nice post. Mota has really stepped up his last few outings. Obviously Jack has confidence in him again. And Mota is pitching with confidence as well. What did he have, 4 K's in 2 innings of work? Nice, very nice.

Valyekrin
glad hes back.. if Todd stays strong.. this can be a killer combo for the 2nd 1/2 843791[/snapback] Todd doesn't show any signs of slowing down, it is great to see a bunch of guys who have had decent carrers producing for the fish. De Los Santos, Mecir, Mota and Jones have been very effective... I finally am having confidence in the bullpen. And it makes me excited to know that Alfonseca and Spooney are only.... X amount of time away! lol. They will be a great boost for the late year run.
PBMarlin
We should see Alfonseca this year, but Spooney is doubtful.
catchoftheday
whatever happened to walks and hits? but Mota has too good of stuff to be down the whole season ... I haven't seen him at all this year but im sure he will be back to at least "decent" form soon hopefully Todd Jones can keep it up
strandedx02
He's been lights out in the setup role lately, that Mota/Jones 8th and 9th is looking really good.
legacyofCangelosi
Remember that mota didnt lose his closing job, Jones won it. Mota went down b/c he was injured and jones has been playing very well in that spot. I'm sure mota is unhappy with the current situation, but if Jones does truggle as looper did in 03, then im sure the roles will flip again. If alfonseca can come back and pitch well that'll be a major boost for the club t oadd someone who can technically also be used for setup. It's great to see him pitching so well again.

musk
Yep. Totally agree. Mota is finally out of the doghouse and solidified this bullpen. He can go 1+ innings and easily set it up for Jones. I would like to see Mota just stay in the SU role for the season unless Jones falls off the horse (which it doesn't look like he will). De Lo Santos looks like a solid MRP. We shouldn't complain about the bullpen anymore if they keep this up. (note: im not just saying this because of the spectacular game they just had. they've been solid for a couple of weeks now) Now if our bats could come alive at the same time we'd be set and this team would finally live up to its potential.
