what are your thoughts now that the deadline has passed

 

would you rather have AJ traded and gain something for the now and for the future. or are you happy to see that the front office wants to win now, even if it means losing AJ in the offseason for basically nothing

Keep him.

 

Because, as I've continually maintained, how can we say he's 100% unsignable? Not to mention, just because we want to move him for more pieces, doesn't mean we should give him away. The parts just weren't there, and I respect Beinfest for knowing that he had a piece in AJ that we never would have been able to replace.

Happy we kept him, been saying it for weeks if we're serious about '05 there's no reason to get rid of him.

I'm happy we kept him, but in all honesty, if it meant moving Mike Lowell(and kept us in the race), I would have been all for it.

Keeping AJ was right since he can really help a team right there in the WC race, even though dealing him might have lifted the burden of Lowell and his contract as part of the package....

It depends on what was offered in return.

 

If the best deal on the table was the Orioles garbage, then it's good he was kept. If someone would have taken Lowell's contract and given up a good #3 pitcher plus an MLB ready OF prospect I would have rather seen him dealt.

 

But he's here, for better or worse. Hopefully he can be a part of another WS team in Florida. Go get 'em A.J.

With Alex being FA eligable I would have worked with Satan's son (Henry) to get a deal for Hanley, but I guess they weren't interested.

 

I hope we now give him a contract extension to keep him here.

Test his market value and not pull off a trade if the offers weren't acceptable.

 

I'm surprised how many folks here did not even want to test and see his market value. He was by far one of our and the majors' biggest tradable assets. Fortunetly or unfortunetly contract and trade demands shrunk the market. And we have him for atleast the next two months.

That's nice. Now let's see if he stands by Louie's side in the offseason and re-signs with the Fish. I don't think it's likely, but I hope he does.

It really all depends on if we re-sign him or not.

 

If we end up re-signing him then it's a great move.

 

If we DON'T end up re-signing him then it's a bad move, unless of course we make the playoffs.

I sure hope all of you are right. This is a team that has swept one series all season and though I will never argue with winning 3-consecutive series...it has been against the Giants, Pirates and slumping Nats.

 

Come next season we will have Ron Villone instead of McCarthy and Marte. It's AJ for 2-2 1/2 months or McCarthy and Marte for a few years.

 

As I said all along, if AJ stays as he is...I am his # 1 fan...let's go get'em. But to me winning it all has never been more important than being a competitive team long term. AJ would have brought us yet another young stud...Beckett, Willis, Vargas, Olsen and McCarthy....ouch.

If you're defining "being right" as the Marlins winning the World Series this year, that's wrong. I wanted the Marlins to keep AJ this year because unlike Penny, AJ is a potentially dominant playoff pitcher. And we did not have a strong enough team to win it all last year. Not like this year, with the added health and experience of our pitchers, and the addition of Delgado. With AJ, IMO we have a 15% chance of winning the World Series this year. Without him, we would have had less than a 2% chance. There never appeared to be any trade that would have changed that 15% vs. 2% equation. That's all I want, that 15% chance. It doesn't come along all that often. And winning it all IS what it's all about. You take the chance this year, when you have all the pieces in place, including Gonzo. And you have a relatively healthy team. Next year AJ will be gone. Gonzo likely gone. Enc almost definitely gone. And health-wise, things can only get worse. Next year is a rebuilding year, and likely the year after that. If you want a team that's perpetually competitive, but rarely wins it all, the Braves are a good choice. Their own fans are tired of this routine competitive team, and even with a nice new park, they're bored and don't show up at the games unless the Braves make the NLCS. Next year, or after this year, we can trade Beckett for all those prospects you want.

That was perhaps the biggest piece of crap I've read on these boards. Every other line you made something up. Every thought is linear. Every reasoning flawed.

im glad we kept him,and its gonna pay off.

Keep him, offer him arby, let him walk, take the draft picks.

Because I believe we have zero chance of resigning him, we should have traded him.

I would of been happy either way, but if I could of sold him off for something nice now and big down the line. I would of done it honestly. Specially if I could of gotten rid of lowell's contract ( Though I do love mikey!)

 

I am happy we have him though, I think he will be a big help down the stretch.

For 4 reasons I am glad we kept him he is still signable and if we do lose it him Type A free agent and 2 first round picks AJ will still win games for us and the market for him wasn't strong enough

I would have kept Burnett, especially if we were going to do that awful Orioles deal.
