LOWELL

Featured Replies

If you bench Lowell now, though, kiss the gold glove goodbye...

Gold gloves aren't usually awarded to guys with .230 something averages.

924611

Most guys with .230 averages aren't three-time All-Star's with the best fielding percentage at their position in Major League history.

924648

Yeah, well Lowell set the record for fewest errors by a third baseman in a season (last year) and he still didn't win.

And remember the informal poll done about a month and a half ago about best defensive players at their position? Lowell wasn't even in the top-3 Aramis Ramirez and his 20 something errors were, but no Lowell. He isn't winning it this year...he deserves it, but he won't get it.

Flip Encarnacion and Hermida, so managers have to decide when to pull the trigger on their lefty and then you're on to something.

Lets see....

2. Castillo

3. Cabrera

4. Delgado

5. Encarnacion

6. Gonzalez/Lo Duca

7. Gonzalez/Hermida

Care to explain? Cabrera went from Double A to hitting cleanup for the World Series Champions.

Our offense hasnt been "bad" in either season but we wouldnt have won it all without Cabrera that season and hell who knows....maybe we wont make the playoffs without Hermida.

Sorry Mike but Hermida just took your playing time!

I think his point is that Cabrera didn't turn the offense around, nor did he light the world on fire in the regular season.

62 RBIs in limited ABs and a homer against Clemens in the World Series- batting cleanup.

Exactly, TSwift.

But don't let that get in the way of WMM2003's delusions. He's stuck on Hermida until he goes into a slump in which he'll question the player's talent and the front office's decision to call them up. And move on to his next favorite player.

Just because I dont like Nate Bump and I think Lowell should sit.

924869

No, I think it's pretty fair to say our offense is "bad." It certainly isn't good, it isn't even average if you watch the team daily and ignore the RISP stats. For the power numbers alone, I think Hermida could be more of an impact player for this team than Cabrera was for the '03 team. Not to mention, his presence as another lefty threat is bound to help Delgado out in a late situation sometime against a team with only one lefty in the 'pen...but that's only if he gets to play every day.

Exactly, TSwift.

Two words: Yorman Bazardo

The man has had 1 AB. 1 AB.

924724

Ive seen enough.

924836

In 1 AB?? How is that possible? C'mon man!

I still say give Hermida a shot... If he struggles , platoon him or something, but I can't see him doing worse than Captain Pop-Up Lowell right now. One month of the season left, this team needs a spark like Cabs and Dontrelle brought 2 years ago...

You guys are crazy. Hermida is the real deal. He is the best hitting prospect the Marlins have EVER had not named Miguel Cabrera. He has over 100 walks with gap power and an extremely high OBP. He is the type of guy that can single handedly raise the RBI totals of Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Delgado (if he hits where he should, #2).

Maybe some are rushing to judgment crowning him as savior, but he is THAT GOOD.

Well, since Glavine's been pushed back (it seems) I don't think we'll see Hermida in there on Friday night.

Really though, what do we lose if we start Hermida for 2 of the games against the Mets, and if he struggles in the first one, I'm sure McKeon will over-manage and get Conine or Lowell back in the lineup anyway. Between Lowell, Gonzalez and Treanor, all we have are singles hitters who get lucky, something needs to be done to shake-up the bottom of the lineup (no, he won't hit in the 2-hole), and at the worst, he can't kill rallies any more completely than Lowell and Gonzalez have demonstrated the ability to.

Nothing to lose, everything to gain, seems like a no-brainer to me.

I dont doubt hell be good but I do want to see him start a few games before I completely kick Mike out for the season

how many more 1-4 or 2-4 days with 2 singles do you need to watch?

the man cant hit this season.. cant say he hasnt had the PT to get out of it, and has shown nothing thus far this season to show that he is snapping out of it. I love Mike Lowell, heck of a player for this team and great for the community, but its crunch time now.

While Hermida probably wont put up monster stats, he was having a hell of a year and as long as he can continue the season he was having (not the same numbers, but a small drop off is still better than Lowell stats) it would be a hell of an improvement over lowell..

The telling statistic is with that HR, Hermida is only 5 behind lowell for the season

I like Lowell's defense at 3rd. The value of defense is easy to overlook. If I were to play Hermida, which is reasonable, I'd sit Pierre. Move Encarnacion to center.

925010

Yeah, sit the only guy who had 2 hits the first 2 times through the lineup, and the only player who has been close to a consistent offensive force the past 2 weeks. :plain

It's too bad Hermida didn't get his audition sooner. Encarnacion could have been dealt on the waiver wire.
