BREAKING NEWS: FEMA director Michael Brown resigns

Featured Replies

That is rediculous...WTF is wrong with our country, and the humantiarian organizations that are supposed to be the helping hand?

No structure or stability..

Bah.

This is not good, stability is now gone too. Who will replace Brown...likely a military higher-up who becomes civilian or a Clintonista? Maybe the head of the Texas EOC?

Pressure is a b*tch. Next time, don't put yourself in a position to command an authority that delivers assistance to thousands of recently displaced hurricane victims....

Or at least, say something before you are promoted? Maybe something like..

"I'm not ready."

not good? you think he re-signed on his own?

this is great news. Brown will be the scape goat so the Fed can move on and put this Katrina poor showing on the back and do a better job next time.

It's going to happen again. If they didn't learn from Andrew what makes you think they learned from Katrina.

15-20 years from now this same situation will occur in another state that hasn't had experience with a major hurricane in a very long time.

Katrina screw up > Andrew

we are talking about people being trapped in hell. at least on Andrew volunteers could drive down there and provide food and water to the victims

Fair enough.

But this will happen again.

Luckily its not hell anymore. They are well on their way to bringing the city back(for now) very soon. Army COE believes all parts of the city will be drained by Oct 8, which is excellent news.

Yep, and the death totals are nowhere near the ludicrous 10,000 that was reported by some...it may not even reach 1,000....which is fantastic news.

Him resigning doesnt solve or help anything.

Pointless.

For the government to maintain a semblance of integrity, the exposed, unqualified resum?-cheat had to go; that was the point.

But, as far as the bigger problem concerning us all -- you're right, it doesn't change anything.

Brown was an idiot through all of this, but so was everybody else involved really (Louisiana Governor, New Orleans Mayor, even President Bush) so putting the blunder of poor relief after the storm entirely on his back and stupid and unfair.

But hey, like in sports when the coach gets fired, somebody's head had to roll for this, and Michael Brown was that man. Will this change anything or make anything better though? Unfortunately, I doubt it.

Brown was grossly unqualified and doesnt know what he is doing. So even if he was a scape goat or wasn't to blame, this is still a good thing.

Funny I was watching a special on hurricanes on the history channel and when they covered hurricane Andrew guess what the complaints at the time were?

FEMA took 4 days to start sending in supplies. The governor of FL at the time and the president (BUSH) were highly critisized and so on. Pretty much the same things we are hearing now after Katrina.

Future hurricanes in major cities will catch us equally off guard, anyone want to bet?

Gotta love cronyism. It always works out for the best.

Removing an obvious incompetent from his position useless? What, would you have promoted him?

No, but it isnt going to resolve anything in this situation. The man who takes over to play out the rest of this wont do anything different.

And nice going picking my post out when a few others agreed with my sentiment. And of course you read way too much into what my point was.

Looking for a fight?

:lol Your ego must be bursting at the seams man. :notworthy

Now back to the topic.

your post was the most ignant, so I picked you out.

No, but it isnt going to resolve anything in this situation. The man who takes over to play out the rest of this wont do anything different.

I would disagree. It's IMPERATIVE that someone with a MUCH higher degree of bureacratic acumen be placed in this position to properly conduct operations. I'm not sure if you're inferring that all people are of the same skill level or competency or what you're actually saying, but I just don't agree at all.

I envision this one unfolding into a sopping wet soap opera. Keep your kleenexs handy folks.

If the Red Sox fired Dale Sveum and replaced him with someone who knows what they are doing at third base, wouldnt that resolve the situation?
