Marlins pitcher Josh Beckett, pitching through shoulder tendonitis, is scheduled to visit renown specialist Dr. James Andrews on Monday. Although he feels he won't require it, Beckett is prepared in case he needs arthroscopic surgery on the shoulder. "I don't feel the need to push it," Beckett told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel."I've had several doctors look at me, and they say, 'You've got tendinitis.' Your shoulder is not meant to [throw] 100 times every five days, so you get wear and tear and inflammation."

Even if Beckett did have surgery he should be ready for spring training. Next season will be an interesting one with only he and Dontrelle Willis left standing in the group that once included Carl Pavano and A.J. Burnett. Beckett should still be considered a solid pitcher with the potential to be a stud when he's healthy.

Eh, better now than in January.

When you have elbow issues and go visit Andrews, that's scary, but Beckett's just being cautious.

Arthroscopic surgery isn't a good thing, but it doesn't take very long to recover from it. Not a big deal. If anything, might be a good idea simply to take care of the problem now rather than have it resurface sometime in the future. This would be Josh's first surgery if it happens, I believe.

Of all the things we have to worry about right now, I don't think this is one of them. He'll be OK.

It sounds pretty precautionary

I sure hope he's ok. He had his first 'studly' season this year.

maybe they can transplant some tougher skin on his fingers too :mischief

There we go. Even if he does need surgery, he'll be ready for ST, so it's all good.

This is why I am kinda glad we're not in the playoffs this year. Too much crap/injuries going on.

josh will go get checked out.

best case scenario he is right, worst case scenario he needs a clean up job with a scope. no big deal.

He's such a sickly child. No wait, he's 6'5" and 220 lbs. Geesh, i understand that there is wear and tear during the season but he's always f*cked up.

Throwing a baseball (and especially pitcihng) is such an unnatural motion, it's amazing more pitchers don't have more shoulder/elbow issues.

Let's see the report from Dr. Andrews before we get too worked up about this. Beckett is just looking for an expert opinion to make sure he gets the most approriate treatment.
