October 3, 200520 yr Predict what our 2006 Opening Day roster is going to look like. I ask that Admin or a mod please close this thread after the playoffs are over and then we'll look back at this thread on Opening Day to see who made the best predictions. SP: Dontrelle Willis C: Paul Lo Duca 1B: Carlos Delgado 2B: Luis Castillo 3B: Miguel Cabrera SS: Robert Andino LF: Josh Willingham CF: Juan Pierre RF: Jeremy Hermida ....And if we're lucky, perhaps a free agent or two in place of Andino and possibly Willy but I can't even begin to guess who.
October 3, 200520 yr What I'd like: SP: Beckett Pierre-CF Castillo-2B Cabrera-LF Delgado-1B Garciaparra-SS Hermida-RF LoDuca-C Lowell-3B What it's going to be: SP: Willis Pierre-CF Castillo-2B Cabrera-LF Delgado-1B Hermida-RF LoDuca-C Lowell-3B Gonzalez-SS
October 3, 200520 yr C- Paul LoDuca 1B- Carlos Delgado 2B- Luis Castillo SS- 3B- Miguel Cabrera LF- CF-Juan Pierre RF- Jeremy Hermida SP: Dontrelle Willis **I am going to fill in LF and SS alittle later**
October 3, 200520 yr 1B- Carlos Delgado 2B- Luis Castillo 3B- Mike Lowell SS- Alex Gonzalez LF- Miguel Cabrera CF- Juan Pierre RF- Jeremy Hermida C- Paul LoDuca SP: D-Train
October 3, 200520 yr CF-Pierre 2B-Castillo RF-Hermida 3B-Cabrera 1B-Delgado SS-Garciapara C-Lo Duca LF-? Niner possibly, or someone in a trade involving Mike Lowell SP-Scott Olsen(just a hunch, but since we start out on the road, I think they will set up the opening day rotation where Willis and Beckett start the first two games @ home)
October 3, 200520 yr CF: Juan Pierre LF: Jeremy Hermida RF: Some big name FA (Sosa? Ramirez?) 1B: Carlos Delgado 2B: Luis Castillo SS: Robert Andino (unless he sucks in ST) 3B: Miguel Cabrera C: Paul LoDuca SP: Dontrelle Willis SP: Josh Beckett SP: Jason Vargas SP: FA SP: Jeff Allison CL: Chris Resop

October 3, 200520 yr SP- Willis 2B-Castillo CF-T. Hunter 3B-Cabrera 1B-Delgado LF-Conine RF-Hermida C-lo Duca SS-Andino
October 3, 200520 yr Author SP-Scott Olsen(just a hunch, but since we start out on the road, I think they will set up the opening day rotation where Willis and Beckett start the first two games @ home) Good point, I didn't even think of that.
October 3, 200520 yr C: Paul Lo Duca 1B: Carlos Delgado 2B: Luis Castillo 3B: Mike Lowell SS: Alex Gonzalez LF: Miguel Cabrera CF: Juan Pierre RF: Jeremy Hermida SP: The D-Train
October 3, 200520 yr SP-Scott Olsen(just a hunch, but since we start out on the road, I think they will set up the opening day rotation where Willis and Beckett start the first two games @ home) Good point, I didn't even think of that. Not.A.Chance.
October 3, 200520 yr SP-Scott Olsen(just a hunch, but since we start out on the road, I think they will set up the opening day rotation where Willis and Beckett start the first two games @ home) Good point, I didn't even think of that. Not.A.Chance. A) Olsen may not be in the rotation to start the season next year B) The team will not forego a win just so their two studs start at home...The thought of that is ridiculous.
October 3, 200520 yr Umm Scott Olsen is not forgoing a win, he was incredibly good except for one game at Philadelphia, and he is a K machine. Making it sound like Olsen is an automatic loss is more ridiculous...plus, who would bring the bigger draw at the home opener? A combo of Vargas, Johnson, or Olsen, or Beckett/Willis? Since opening weekend is the biggest draw of the whole year, starting those two would be the smart thing to do and letting a youngin start on the road would be smart. A win/loss on opening day is no different than a win/loss on the 3rd, 4th, 5th day of the season...you, FFIPA, are just arguing because I am the one who posted it.

Senor Olsen is not starting opening day. It is definitely an original thought, but it will never happen.
October 3, 200520 yr Author SP-Scott Olsen(just a hunch, but since we start out on the road, I think they will set up the opening day rotation where Willis and Beckett start the first two games @ home) Good point, I didn't even think of that. Not.A.Chance. Not a chance, are you kidding me? This happens every single year, many clubs that start the season on the road adjust their rotation so their #1 ace starts during the home opener. This is nothing out of the ordinary.
October 3, 200520 yr C-Paul LoDuca 1B-Carlos Delgado 2B-Miguel Cairo 3B-Miguel Cabrera SS-Robert Andino RF-Jeremy Hermida CF-Juan Pierre LF-Rondell White BO will be: 1. Pierre 2. Cairo 3. Cabrera 4. Delgado 5. White 6. Lo Duca 7. Hermida 8. Andino 9. Willis This took some real out of the box thinking. We will resign Jones to be the closer for 1 yr 4 mil. and get very decent bullpen help and prospects for lowell and castillo.
October 3, 200520 yr I bet you money it will happen, for the exact reason of having our two biggest draws(Willis/Beckett), on the mound for the first two games of the home opener, since it is the largest revenue producing days per seats sold of the year...it makes sense from a business/team standpoint, put the big guns on the mound the two days when you are sure to rake in the $$, and let our young studs handle the initial road work.
October 3, 200520 yr 2b- Castillo RF- Hermida 3b- Cabrera 1b- Delgado C- LoDuca LF- Willingham SS- Andino / Nomar CF- ?
October 3, 200520 yr CF: Juan Pierre or Jacque Jones* LF: Jeremy Hermida RF: Jeff Conine 1B: Carlos Delgado 2B: Luis Castillo SS: Alex Gonzalez or Royce Clayton** 3B: Miguel Cabrera C: Paul LoDuca SP: Dontrelle Willis SP: Josh Beckett SP: Jason Vargas SP: Josh Johnson SP: Mark Redman (The FO loves him, I'd like to see him come back) CL: Antonio Alfonseca * Assuming Pierre is packaged in a trade with Lowell ** Assuming AGon is not resigned
October 4, 200520 yr CF Juan Pierre 2B Luis Castillo 3B Miguel Cabrera 1B Carlos Delgado RF Jeremy Hermida C Paul LoDuca LF Chris Aguila SS Alex Gonzalez P Dontrelle Willis The FO seems hell bent on moving Lowell. I'll bet they will find a taker. (Perhaps Willingham and Olsen will sweeten the pot). If they trade Lowell I would hope they would put the $$$ into a #3 pitcher and a closer. Hermida is definitely ready to start, and so is Aguila. I don't believe the FO will be willing to give Conine another $3M and will let him go. I'm a bit up in the air about Alex, but believe it's possible the FO signs him for another 2 years. After all, that's the term he accepted last time. Andino needs more seasoning in the minors.
October 4, 200520 yr if we trade Castillo we are retarded...plain and simple. Either way here's my take... 1b: Delgado 2b: Castillo 3b: Cabrera (if we can't trade lowell) ss: Andino or FA (I like Garciaparra or even Ciaro) lf: FA or Niner...he's still got some gas left in the tank cf: JP rf: Hermida c: Lo Duca SP: D-train Beckett Vargas Olsen FA Just pullin this outta my ass...
October 4, 200520 yr some of u put people like furcal, nomar and manny, also r.white, and hunter?? do we really have a shot as some of those guys like Hunter or manny, or even nomar?
October 4, 200520 yr some of u put people like furcal, nomar and manny, also r.white, and hunter?? do we really have a shot as some of those guys like Hunter or manny, or even nomar? Considering Nomar's a free-agent coming off a sub-par season (but with a very strong September), yeah we have a shot at him. Manny is doubtful, Furcal even more so because the Cubs figure to go crazy bidding on him, and Hunter would have to come via a trade like Manny, meaning that's incredibly unlikely.

I just hope they don't go in Al Leiter mode an offer 8-10 million to Nomar. No more than 5 million one year deal should be offered
October 4, 200520 yr C - Lo Duca 1B - Delgado 2B - Castillo 3B - Cabrera SS - Gonzalez LF - Niner/Willingham CF - Pierre RF - Hermida 1. Dontrelle 2. Josh 3. FA - Hopefully a Kevin Millwood 4. Vargas 5. Olsen/Johnson/FA (Mark Redman type)
