An unappreciative bunch

This Wednesday I attended a press conference to promote tonight's boxing show at MIccosukee. Most local sport writer were present, including some from the herald, telemundo and so forth. I know most of them because I've been a boxing writer for a while now and coincide with them in this events.

We were talking about the Marlins season and they were telling me about the hatred most players felt for McKeon, the things they said off the record were shocking.

from Castillo and Gonzalez blaming McKeon for their injuries, saying he played them hurt and now they need to have surgery. To Encarnaci?n saying he felt like breaking a bat on the old man's head.

Cabrera was not suspended for being late. He was susponded for doing so repeatedly, and then coming in bragging about his ability, telling his fellow teammates not to panick, that he was finally there. Lenny Harris alledgely grab him by the neck once for disespecting veterans and Villone challenged him to a fist fight.

All in all, it doesn't sound pretty.

That's what McKeon had to deal with, a bunch of cry babies. Millionaire athletes that have no respect for the sport.

Im not surprised at all at these comments. I saw this last year. It seems the ego's have ballooned since they won in 2003.

That seems a little out of character for Luis to say something like that...

That seems a wee bit on the sensationalist side, cause if there was that much uproar in the clubhouse, something would've come out.

Is anyone really shocked though? I don't know if I can believe the story about Lenny choking Cabs, that seems a little far fetched. You know what they say, the story gets more and more juicy every time that it's told. Mabye they got into a very heated argument, but LENNY HARRIS actually choking Cabs? I don't know...

The only thing I truly believe is on the right track factually is the Cabrera stuff. If as reported that he basically would look down upon the veterans its not surprising.

The rest I believe to be very much so fabricated.

And Lenny Harris would defend Jack McKeon to the death.

Duh!! Theplayers have respect for the game but NO respect for Jack McKeon. We weren't there so we don't know what the players put up with from him. AND neither do the alleged reporters.

I said something to the effect of the players stopped playing for McKeon a week or so ago and got hammered and told I don't know what I'm talking about. I was just calling it like it is, it looked like they quit on him. Anyways this kind of makes sense to me. I thought Louie played half the season hurt not just the last month, so if he did say that I don't blame him. As far as Cabrera being cocky, he's been like that since he came up in 2003, along with Beckett who used to say some really cocky things in interviews. He seems to have matured though.

it would be really nice if the once immature kids on the team stepped up next year to be leaders. you can already see it happening with Beckett.

guys, cabrera was banging one of the mermaids.

and luis was hurt before the year started. he played hurt. that's expacted. that's what they pay you for. him blaming mckeon was just him being his arrogant self.

guys, cabrera was banging one of the mermaids.

But the question is, which one.

And I'm glad Lenny and Villone stood up to Cabs if the stories are true.

that's the deffinitely a good question.

and the stories are true. these guys were there when a lot of this sh*t happened.

I have a newfound respect for Ron Villone.

I doubt Alex and Luis complained about being forced to play...if I remmeber correctly there were several occasions where I read articles that Luis and Alex want to play through the injuries with quotes of their sayin so

one thing is what they say on record and another one what they say off of it.

Orisha, anything else you can tell us? Anything regarding Mike Lowell?

yeah, sure, they said mike lowell was alwasy very diplomatic in his responses, either on and off the record. that he's the type of guy that always gives you the same generic answer and goes about his business.
