Posted November 2, 200519 yr On Boog's show this afternoon he said that reports (I haven't seen any online) said that Lowell & Castillo will be announced today as having won the gold glove at their respective positions. Kudos to them (if it's true), especially Mike who was able to keep his offensive struggles from affecting his defense.
November 2, 200519 yr I happen to think this was one of Lowell's poorer defensive seasons but congrats to the both of them if this is true
November 2, 200519 yr I happen to think this was one of Lowell's poorer defensive seasons I agree - I thought he's had better defensive seasons than 2005, and might not have been deserving this year. Still, though, it's good to see him get one, because in previous season he did in fact deserve a GG. Congrats, Mike and Luis.
November 2, 200519 yr What was wrong with his defense this year? I thought it was great. He was good this year - I just personally believe he's had better years.
November 2, 200519 yr Statistically it was his best year. Your opinion might differ from the stats tho
November 2, 200519 yr Getting the Gold Glove would be great for Mikey. May provide him more motivation to work harder this offseason?
November 2, 200519 yr NEW YORK ? (AP) ? Chicago Cubs pitcher Greg Maddux won his 15th Gold Glove on Wednesday, one shy of the record shared by pitcher Jim Kaat and third baseman Brooks Robinson. Maddux set a record for Gold Gloves won in the National League ? Kaat won 14 in the AL and two in the NL. It was the second straight Gold Glove for Maddux and 15th in 16 seasons. San Francisco shortstop Omar Vizquel won his 10th Gold Glove, his first in the NL after the nine straight he earned with the Cleveland Indians from 1993-2001. Atlanta outfielder Andruw Jones won his eighth straight Gold Glove and St. Louis outfielder Jim Edmonds won his eighth, including the last six in a row. Giants catcher Mike Matheny won his fourth overall and third straight. A pair of Florida infielders also were on the Gold Glove team, with second baseman Luis Castillo winning his third straight and third baseman Mike Lowell winning for the first time. Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee won for the second time ? he was on the 2003 NL Gold Glove team and was replaced by Colorado's Todd Helton last year. Philadelphia outfielder Bobby Abreu was a first-time winner. Matheny and Vizquel both earned $100,000 bonuses, while Lee gets $75,000, Abreu and Edmonds $50,000 each and Castillo and Lowell $25,000 apiece.
November 2, 200519 yr Congrats to both of them on and especially Mikey for getting the award that hes been deserving of since 2003.
November 2, 200519 yr A-Gon is the Rodney Dangerfield of NL shortstops... no respect, I tell ya, no respect.
November 2, 200519 yr A-Gon is the Rodney Dangerfield of NL shortstops... no respect, I tell ya, no respect. Well, he did lead all NL Short Stops in errors. Say what you will about range, that's a hard stat to overlook.
November 3, 200519 yr Congrats to Mikey and Luiy! Is everyone willing to give Mikey another year to rebound?

Kudos to them (if it's true), especially Mike who was able to keep his offensive struggles from affecting his defense. You really can't say Castillo much competition though :lol I am a bit surprised Lowell won it over Wright, you have to give the Mets some credit for plucking that player out of the farm system. Still, Lowell and that what seems to be signature hidden ball trick seemed to pull it out. Good for him though Congrats to Mikey and Luiy! Is everyone willing to give Mikey another year to rebound? For less money, of course
November 3, 200519 yr Is everyone willing to give Mikey another year to rebound? No, but I think it would be foolish to pay him to play elsewhere. Considering we'd likely have to absorb 50% of his deal and get nothing in return, it makes the decision tough. Unless we can get Brian Giles or Gary Sheffield to fill that left or right field opening, might as well hold on to Lowell, hope for the best, but keep him on a short leash with Conine waiting to take over in left...
