November 17, 200519 yr I mean this in the nicest way possible, but this is really sick. I'm 50% Russian, and my family wasn't doing cartwheels when Stalin kicked the bucket or when the USSR fell, and we left when the Bolsheviks came in, so no commie cracks. What's sick? Wishing death upon a psychopathic dictator. Well like someone else mentioned on this board a while ago, not all life is sacred. I wish worth than death for that old man. I wish him a painful death one that takes days or weeks to die. Call me sick but my family was directly f*cked over cause of that thing of a person. Isn't it hypocritical to declare a person a sociopath while you wish death upon him? I'll retract my statements if Castro himself kicked your dog and set your house on fire, but he's no different than any dictator...I fail to see the fascination with him. He made poor policy decisions that adversely affected his country, but wishing death on someone is a bit rash. Yeah well he made living on that island so unbearable he's caused millions of Cubans (many our parents and grandparents) to leave, tens of thousands close to 100k to die in the Straits trying to flee, oh and there are the 15k+ that died in the months and years proceeding the Revolution. Yeah I can't see the fascination. I see no reason to wish death upon him. !!!!! :thumbup He didn't stick people in the "rafts" and send them out to sea, those decisions were made by the people who got in the rafts. If making a country poor is a crime, then why is there such sympathy for the war in Iraq, Castro's a light-weight compared to Hussein. I'm not calling Castro a nice guy, but it's hypocritical to call him a bad man because he brought death, yet at the same time, prepare celebrate his death. If death made him evil, then death is not something to be celebrating. So it's wrong to wish death upon Osama Bin Laden? Short answer, yes. But that's apples to oranges. Last time I checked, Castro isn't nearly the global threat that Osama is, nor has Castro orchestrated the mass killings that Bin Laden has either. Oh really, might want to check that. I guess you didn't read my post above. 15k+ were executed on the island post revolution. :thumbup And B4P I agree with you. The US military shouldn't get involved. The exiles here and the people living in Cuba should be the ones that get the job done. 15,000 is chump change for Bin Laden. And if Castro is such an villified individual, why isn't Che Guevera? Last time I checked, the two of them orchestrated the overthrow of Batista, yet one deserves to die and the other gets t-shirts made in his likeness...I don't get it. And it was Castro's brother, Raul, and Guevera who were responsible for most of the executions.

Guevara is villified as much as Castro in the Cuban-American community. Some South Americans, commies, socialists, etc. (especially in Spain) are the ones who praise Che "for teaching children to read along the way".

November 17, 200519 yr Why does everyone seem so excited about Cuba? It'll be like every other country in the Caribbean, poor, good beaches, and baseball prospects. If anyone thinks this will be a successful 1st or 2nd world country, they're sorely mistaken. This place will absolutely suck for about 5-10 years until a bunch of American companies start building beach resorts.

To me thats the most important thing we have and to openly wish for their death or even worse murder is just as bad as the act itself. I mean sure Castro's death could lead to a new era in Cuba, maybe it wont, we really dont know. But to be so openly wishing his death is just as bad as the act itself.

There are no guarantees it's going to be free but the hope is Castro's death sparks a revolution. It's already a POS country. It can't get any worse. Most estimates have already said it's going to take atleast 10 years to get the country back to respectability.

If anyone thinks this will be a successful 1st or 2nd world country, they're sorely mistaken. This place will absolutely suck for about 5-10 years until a bunch of American companies start building beach resorts. Maybe those that left the country many many years ago want to go back to a free country? I doubt it. People from all over the world would love to live in the US and its not because they live in repressed countries, but its just not easy to get papers. Cubans have gotten a free ride basically with the whole political exile business. I highly doubt many will return to Cuba for good (they will travel there for sure, but why leave the US?)
November 17, 200519 yr I doubt Cubans go right away, but they'll go eventually. It'll be too enticing of a situation to pass up. What you will see a lot of, after some time has passed, is that many people will live in Miami and work in Havana (or vice versa). However, this isn't going to happen just because Castro dies. There will be a party and there will be an attempt to bring down the system, but chances are Raul will keep the wheels turning for a few more years at least. The big issue with Cuba is that it has to be done properly. Too many times we've seen countries try to go through drastic changes thanks to short sightedness inspired by rapid democratization. However, Cuba has been Miami's collective obsession for nearly half a century and Washington will be ready for it when it happens. If everything is done properly Cuba could be a a very nice member of the global village a decade or so after communism is removed. The wild card really is whether or not the exiles come back. It would not be wise to impose democracy and capitalism instantly on a nation that has had the government run everything in their lives for 46 years. However, if the exiles go back in large numbers, democracy could be handled much easier because we're used to it and we know how to run the system. Either way, it's going to be interesting whenever it happens. And it's going to be quite the party in Miami when Fidel kicks the bucket, whether or not the government goes down with him.
November 17, 200519 yr Imagine a Miami with less Cubans. It might even be tolerable. :mischief bitch :lol
November 17, 200519 yr those that want a world leader dead simply because they have done horrible things are no better than that person. I see the point you're trying to make, but it is absolutely flat out ridiculous. If I was alive back in the 30's and 40's, I would have wanted Hitler dead, so I guess that makes me just as bad as Hitler. Please . It'll be like every other country in the Caribbean, poor, good beaches, and baseball prospects. :lol :lol :lol :lol Imagine a Miami with less Cubans. It might even be tolerable. :mischief You're on a roll tonight.
