Marlins vs Giants 8/24

Thought I'd try the game preview for a change of luck today....

Florida Marlins (69-60) vs Giants (78-50)

Sunday 4:05 pm EDT, PacBell Park

TV-FSN, Radio-560 WQAM

Pitching Matchup:

--vs--

Carl Pavano -vs- Kirk Rueter

9-11, 4.34 ERA 7-3, 4.30 ERA

Carl Pavano will try to end a 5-game slide by the Marlins and keep them close to the wild-card lead. His last start was a forgettable one, getting shelled by the Rockies for seven runs and ten hits through six innings in the first game of the losing skid. They currently trail Philiadelphia by 1 1/2 games, but both teams have played poorly of late and the pack is closing in. ''They're trying to hand it to us, but we're not taking it,'' said pitcher Josh Beckett, who pitched well against the Giants yesterday but the team was unable to generate enough offense to get him the win.

On their current road trip the Marlins have failed to score over 4 runs in a game and the bullpen hasn't been able to come through when needed. Jack McKeon will try tinkering with the lineup again, giving struggling Mike Lowell the day off (1-for-20 on the road trip) and resting Pudge Rodriguez.

''I'm going to change the lineup tomorrow,'' McKeon said. ``What's the difference? Put some new guys in there. It looks like a couple of guys are getting tired, so I'll give them some rest tomorrow."

"No alibis. We're getting beat. The breaks we were getting, we're not getting. We'll get them somewhere along the line, and maybe we already had them. But we'll be back out there tomorrow."

Juan Pierre agreed. "We have to hold ourselves accountable. The guys who need to get on base need to get on base. And the guys who need to drive in runs need to drive in runs."

game notes: :compute Pierre is 8-18 facing Kirk Rueter.

Cabrera is batting .340 in the past 14 games.

Giants have a league-best 22-8 record in one run games.

so Cabs at 3rd, hoping for Ramon behind the dish and Banks in LF???

i wish we had TH right now....

go fish

--ps, still in Badger land

I told ya they should shake up the line-up and Jack listened I think it will be a good move in the long run.

We all know it's going to be Redmond so why bring this up?

Actually, I could see Castro starting today.

1) Pudge is tired.

2) Redmond is also tired, remember all those time Pudge got tossed, who had to come in last minute?

3) Ramon rotting on the bench at Pac Bell in a situation like this doesn't sound too great to Jack.

If Redmond is rested and Jack believes it, he may play him, but I doubt it. He would rather save Red for the Pittsburgh and Montreal series and use Castro in an offensive series like this one.

Marlins Lineup:

Pierre, CF

Castillo, 2B

Encarnacion, RF

Lee, 1B

Cabrera, LF

Gonzalez, SS

Mordecai, 3B

Redmond, C

Pavano, P

I'm all for shaking things up every now and then and giving some guys a day off, but this is absurd. Sitting your two best offensive threats on the same day while your team is in an atrocious offensive slump is just flat out dumb. Add to this the insertion of a .250 hitter who can't hit in the clutch at cleanup and you've got a recipe for a pathetic offensive outing. Here's hoping Pavano somehow holds SF to a run or two!!!

and we were doing so great when Lowell and Rodrieguez were in the lineup

Fish Fillet,

What would your lineup be then? Be curious as to who you would sit and why?

The replay showed that Cruz never actually touched home plate.
