November 28, 200520 yr Hall semifinalist arrested on outstanding warrantESPN.com news services PLANO, Texas -- Former Dallas Cowboys receiver and current ESPN studio analyst Michael Irvin was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia after police searched his vehicle during a traffic stop, Plano police said Sunday. Irvin Irvin, a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for speeding in Irving after being pulled over Friday afternoon for speeding in Plano, the Plano Police Department said. Police spokesman Mike Johnson said he didn't know what kind of paraphernalia was found. Irvin paid a fine on the speeding ticket and posted bond on the drug paraphernalia possession charge. He was released about an hour after he was pulled over. "We are reviewing the facts of the situation and have no comment at this time," ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz said. In 1996, Irvin pleaded no contest to felony cocaine possession in exchange for four years of deferred probation, a $10,000 fine and dismissal of misdemeanor marijuana possession charges. Irvin, a member of three Super Bowl championship teams with the Cowboys and known as "The Playmaker" during his 12-year career with Dallas, retired in July 2000. He has been paired at ESPN with veteran host Chris Berman, Tom Jackson and Steve Young on the main set of Sunday NFL Countdown since 2003. Irvin holds Cowboys records for catches (750), receiving yards (11,904) and 100-yard games (47), including a team-record seven in a row in 1991. In September of this year, Irvin and former Cowboys teammates Troy Aikman and Emmitt Smith were together added to the Ring of Honor together, a recognition of the players most associated with the Cowboys' last Super Bowl titles. Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. Discuss.
November 28, 200520 yr Author Here's the thing... Irvin is an idiot. As a broadcast "journalist" I can't stand him. His only job is to fued with former players and generally act like an ass. If he wasn't adding gasoline I honestly believe this T.O. situation wouldn't have gotten out of hand and that guy would still have a job. Irvin gets too involved in stories and he acts like an idiot. I don't think he's either fair or balanced and I thought they should have gotten rid of him a long time ago (and compared to other player analysts he REALLY sucks; you don't see Steve Young or Boomer Esiason getting overexcited and yelling to get their point across). Also, did I mention he's not professional (again)? Your job as an analyst, as said before, is to be fair and balanced. We're not supposed to know who you're rooting for and you're supposed to "report" the story with some kind of unbias. I mean, even with bad teams there's ways to do it and announcers like Salisbury, Clayton, Jaworski, Theismann, Mortenson, and Golic find ways to hate on those teams without appearing to be homers for the teams they root for. As a player he is underappreciated as a reciever and deserves to get in the hall of fame and is only ruining his own legacy with this stupid nonsense. That being said, this still sucks. I don't need him getting fired or in trouble for the wrong reasons; and being held out of the hall of fame for his stupid habit falls under this.
November 28, 200520 yr Fritz, all you do is rip on UM, aren't you a Gators? I mean, its like the pot calling the kettle black.
November 28, 200520 yr Damn. I heard him on the radio just a couple of months ago (I think with Joe Rose) and he was talking about all the stupid things he did in the past and how he had learned and grown as a person. He was saying he wouldn't want his kids to hear the extent of all his past troubles.

He was saying he wouldn't want his kids to hear the extent of all his past troubles. He lied. And it sucks to see someone who's struggled with those demons lose to them again especially since he always claimed to have gotten over them. And Passion, if he's just a personality, then he's a poor one. He's like America's Favorite Uninvited House Guest.
November 28, 200520 yr Fritz, all you do is rip on UM, aren't you a Gators? I mean, its like the pot calling the kettle black. It's the pot calling the kettle black for any major college program. Da U just has made it so easy in the past.
November 28, 200520 yr i dont get michael irvin. maybe its the whole miami in the late 80s mentality and all...i dont knot. he has been given everything in life due to his ability to catch a football and he constantly screws up. makes it even worse cause he was a star for hte cowboys and that much grateful to have guys like troy, emmitt, jay and moose that i really rooted for on offense.
November 28, 200520 yr OMGMIAMIISFULLOFCRIMINALS!!!!! :plain That said, Irvin is a jackass on pretty much everything he does for ESPN. The only thing that is mildly entertaining for me is the segment when he critiques touchdown dances.

That might be the ONLY segment he does really well consistantly. [ends his own views on Irvin because he doesn't have any more]
November 28, 200520 yr on an unrelated subject, i'm still trying to figure out how programs such as alabama, florida state and miami escaped major sanctions for probably doing worse stuff than SMU and we get pwned.

[ends his own views on Irvin because he doesn't have any more] I'm not the biggest fan of jacked up, and Irvin doesn't add anything more to that segment that some other ex-players potentially could, IMO. The only thing Irvin has ever added for me was when someone on my college team thought the RB from Playmakers was actually based on Irvin's life. on an unrelated subject, i'm still trying to figure out how programs such as alabama, florida state and miami escaped major sanctions for probably doing worse stuff than SMU and we get pwned. It's always easier for the NCAA to give a death penatly to a lesser program (that doesn't have a big impact on college football), make an example out of them, and trump up strict discipline than for the NCAA to give a harsh penalty to a major program and seem like they have no control over anything that goes on. Or at least that's what Andrew Zimbalist said in one of his books on college football.

Hey cool, you didn't lump Ohio State in there. We usually get tossed in for our awesome 1 (one) violation we had a couple years ago. Lesson to Florida schools...don't get caught.
