December 8, 200520 yr Rotoworld's take: Marlins re-signed RHP Brian Moehler to a one-year contract. Dontrelle Willis won't be the veteran of the Florida rotation after all. Moehler was 6-12 with a 4.55 ERA for the Marlins last season, but his ERA jumped to 6.67 after the All-Star break. He'll probably join a rotation that should also include Willis, Jason Vargas and Sergio Mitre. Josh Johnson, Yusmeiro Petit and Scott Olsen might be candidates for the fifth spot. I would wait until May or June, to be sure. Why? If he's pitching well in Spring Training I say we let him have a shot. I don't necessarily want him playing in the PCL, that league saps the confidence out of pitchers. He performed better than both Johnson and Olsen in AA.

December 8, 200520 yr Before the drastic overhaul this offseason began, I was looking forward to seeing no more of Moehler in a Marlins uniform. At this point, I am somewhat okay with the idea of him returning, but not as a starter. Throw him in there for long relief to begin with and, if needed, throw him into the rotation. As for Lenny, I would rather see him as a coach than a player.

I think he's okay.. hopefully he can develop a change up. Has a good sinking fastball.. might do pretty well in our park. I don't necessarily think he is a given to be in our rotation next year but theres a good chance he will be. Also, weren't the Rangers and DRays interested in Fez earlier in the offseason? Maybe he will get moved?

He's probably at his cieling, but he's a decent #4... Any word on Conine getting arbitration?

December 8, 200520 yr All I'm saying is Moehler got extremely lucky for half the season and all of his raw numbers indicate the 2nd half of his season (6+ ERA) is probably more accurate of his performance than his first half numbers.

December 8, 200520 yr Moehler was solid for the first half of 2005, although his W-L didn't reflect that due to lousy run support. It was his first complete season in the bigs after coming off TJ. He just ran out of gas the 2nd half. Hopefully he'll come back stronger this season.
