FCAT Writing

Featured Replies

I went in at 12 after breakfast and hanging out at the park. Thank goodness I'm a senior. :]

I suck at writing, so I got a 4 on it...but I had perfect scores on the two other sections. (math & reading?)

The FCAT is a joke and like Wild Card said...if you cant pass it, you should not be in 10th grade.

Well, unless you are a foreign student. Just because you can't write at that level by 10th grade doesn't mean you shouldn't be there. Good point. But I think they help out the ESOL kids with that. I know they always have extra time and stuff like that. But yeah, I guess they're a special case.

I went to school with a ton of Spanish kids at Nova that were intelligent, but couldn't get past the Reading and/or Writing section of the FCAT. Some didn't even graduate...Granted, the smart ones generally get it by 11th or 12th grade.

And you can't stay in ESOL after you reach a certain point...So most of them have to take the test at regular length.

I see what you're saying...but like I said, that would be a special case. I'm talking about regular kids (who were born here and know english and all that good stuff) that dont pass it. It's harder to not pass it than to pass it.

Oh ya, agree.

All you need to know to pass reading is the how to read a damn book.

All you need to know to pass math is y=mx+b.

I can see some people might have trouble with reading because it's really hard to give a f*** when taking that test, but you have to try rather hard to fail math.

Wait, so it's a four out of six max?

What a joke.

'Course they know English. Doesn't mean they can write comprehensive essays just after they get here.

I am assuming the FCAT stands for Florida right? Because we didn't have to take them here.

Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test?

I have no idea, but that makes sense right?

Yes, private schools don't have to take it.

They really must have softened the grading rubric in the past 5 years, because you guys are getting better scores (5+) than some of the smartest kids I went to school with.

Blow me, these aren't the SAT's for God's sake. You write an interesting hook, three valid reasons, a nice clincher at the end and wham, bam, thank ya Ma'am.

And I agree with Chewie about the reading, it's easy as long as you can stay awake with the boring ass stories they give you.

well if you dont know the material that you should know at that level then you shouldnt be there.

sorry.

Rawr. Put the claws down, sweetie.

I actually didn't even read on the reading part. Swear on my life, I didn't read a word in one of the stories in the Reading section of the 10th Grade F-CAT (I was a little tired that day), and still got 350 out of 500, which is a level 4. I almost literally passed it in my sleep. The test is basically common sense. It's extremely predictable.

lmfao :lol

Haha, my bad. I tend to get emotional at times :plain

Oh and it was funny, there were a bunch of people protesting about FCAT in front of my school the other day. They passed out bumper stickers and everything, it was quite amusing.

There were many changes this year reguarding the 10th grade Writing+ Test. There is now a multiple choice grammer test included with the writing essay, and the passing grade is now 4.0 instead of 3.0. Students must pass the 10th grade FCAT to graduate high school.

Heeheehee.

Please, no.

I dont know if someone posted this already but this test is waste of time, because students dont really need to pass this test to graduate. They need to pass the Math and Reading portions of it but not the Science and/or writing portions of it, at least not yet.
