Jorg's Journal - March 10, 2006

Featured Replies

well another win. wow. today was a late arrival day to give us a break. more of a show-and-go day for everyone instead of the usual 9:30 stretch with a little workout beforehand. it's always great when the manager gives you one of those - helps to give some of the players a little extra time to rest.

stokes certainly is making a case to make the team. monstrous homerun into the clubhouse / picnic area behind left center field. then another double in the left center field gap. kinkade also hit a towering homerun to left field off halama later on in the game. other than that i can't remember really how we scored our other runs. one or two were due to a few miscues by the shortstop - he committed 2 errors in one inning with 3 ground balls being hit to him. kind of felt bad for him, but that's just how it goes sometimes.

pitching looked strong today. petit started and worked 2 scoreless. it was good to see him throw well since i believe he got hit around his last outing down in lauderdale. mitre struggled with command somewhat but managed to get groundballs to get ouf of some innings. he joked that his ball just wasn't sinking enough - which if you've ever seen him pitch, his sinker drops off the table. borowski was perfect. ligtenburg the same - along with providing some Don Ramon's cuban food for post-game spread. i had to ask Jesus Delgado what something was, and i still can't remember. maybe a yut or somethin - supposedly like a potato and well liked down south.

anyways, if you've got any more questions, throw them out there.

oh, and holly i always see you with your camera at the game, but where's all these photos you keep taking ?? :D

Well, if it was Cuban food, what you were having was probably yuca (also known as cassava).

Are you scheduled to make any starts this week?

yuca. that's what it was. didn't really like it

i don't think so. they're more concerned with the battle for a starter right now between josh and olivo

Jorg,

just wondering why you picked 21..

i know it was open after beckett got traded but has that always been your number?

What do the players think about the team possibly moving to San Antonio? Is it discussed much?

i didn't pick it. nor did i pick 22 last year. it was just a lower number than my original ST 76 and was available. as for the 21, well one of the coaches (harkey) wanted 22, so i gave it up and took whatever was there. don't really care what number i wear.

haven't heard any discussion in the locker room about it one bit

hey jorg, thanks for doing this... Have there been any good nicknames going around the clubhouse for some of the new guys?

oh, and holly i always see you with your camera at the game, but where's all these photos you keep taking ?? :D

Holly, you're famous. :thumbup

dude, i want to know how easy it is to pick up women being a professional athlete. i'm a true playa anyway, but i'd like to know how much easier it would be if i were an athlete. :hat

Jorg...

Shadez Nation is just the group of Hanley Ramirez fans..

he is known as Shadez around here because he is always wearing cool sunglasses

Holly=Future Team Photographer job with Marlins?

yeah i'm sure she'll take over when the gay old dude with hawaiian shirts dies (i'm not being prejudice he's really gay)

Thanks for the updates Jorg, always a good read, do ya think other players have checked out the site?

& keep it up Holly!

Jorg, I saw in your journal from the other day that you've got a PS2 and your favorite game is SOCOM 3.

Do you have MVP Baseball 2005 for the PS2? And how cool is it to play as yourself in the game? :D

Thanks again Jorg.....noticed that Uggla had two errors as did Gomez (the Oriole SS filling in for Tejada who's away on business heh), is he struggling at second base despite Perry Hill's guidance? Or has he been showing some improvement since camp opened?

My regards to Shadez.

mike jacobs mentioned something to me the other day about my journal so i know he's looked at it. and then one of the reporters as well.

from what you have seen...who would you say has the upper hand for the centerfield job right now?

reggie has been hitting the ball better than reed. both play outstanding defense. but it's still way too early

you can only get so much out of teaching, and i'm sure he's gotten some great instruction. but, like morpheus once said in the matrix - "i can only show you the door..." (my favorite movie by the way). sometimes a ball will just take a bad bounce, and there's nothing you can really do about it.

Jorg,

Good stuff.

question. Are the players following the World Baseball Classic? What are the comments about the event?

Jorg, two questions if you don't mind:

1) What do you think of the whole Barry Bonds situation?

2) Who was your favorite player growing up?

somewhat but not really

1. eh, whatever. i mean if the guy's guilty why not just admit it. who cares. makes you look even worse if you've denied it the whole time only to see the truth revealed later on.

2. didn't really have one.

Jorg - Who is your favorite pitcher to catch?

the one's that throw strikes :D

Jorg,

Lots of players are superstitious about some things. Do you have any superstitions of your own? Have you ever seen any really crazy superstitions from guys? Does the team (or any team you've ever played on) have any collective superstitions, like wearing the socks high or something?
