Marlins look for first home victory

San Diego (3-4) at Florida (1-6)

A year ago, the Marlins' longest losing streak was six games. That slide came late when the team came upon hard times last Sept. 23-28. The young Marlins are hoping to avoid dropping their sixth straight on Thursday. Now off to a 1-6 start, the Marlins are in danger of being swept in three games by the Padres, who rolled to a 7-2 win on Wednesday.

A bright spot in the slow start has been rookie shortstop Hanley Ramirez.

Ramirez remains hot, having hit safely in all seven games. Ramirez bounced a double down the third-base line in the third inning, the team's first hit off Chris Young on Wednesday. Of Ramirez's 12 hits this season, four are doubles and two are triples.

Pitching matchup

FLA: LHP Jason Vargas (0-1, 9.00)

In his first start, the left-hander had a tough time at Shea Stadium. Vargas gave up five runs on eight hits in a loss to the Mets, including a towering home run to David Wright. He threw 94 pitches. Vargas faces the Padres for the second time. As a rookie last year, Vargas suffered a loss, giving up three runs in 5 1/3 innings.

SD: RHP Dewon Brazelton (0-1, 34.71)

Coming off a disappointing Padres debut against the Rockies, who hammered him for 11 hits and nine earned runs in 2 1/3 innings, Brazelton hopes to right himself back in Florida against the Marlins. The former Tampa Bay No. 1 pick gets by on control and sinking action on his fastball, with a deadly changeup. When he's got everything working, he can rack up zeros.

I got a feeling its a win today...

I have class at 3:30 so I will miss the end of the game...

that alone is enough for them to win (and if thats the case I'm going to class more!)

btw, my whole school basically is home this weekend! This means I'll be blasting the Marlins games full up! GO FISH!!!

Intresting note about Brazelton is that in 30 career road starts he is 0-15....he has never won a game on the road....smells like a Fish win today

Brazelton was sweating horribly on Tuesday, he can't take the heat. Hopefully the temperature is well over 80 at game time.

Although Brazelton almost pitched a no-no against us in the past, I feel a two game win streak developing for the Mighty Marlins.

I also anticipate a slugfest and feel the total will be well over 9.

Do I have any stats to back up my opinion?

1:00 games at ProRobbieDolphins Stadium are typically run scoring affairs and the Marlins hit the ball hard yesterday without many results (even my whipping boy Chris Aguila).

Well the most obvious reason for our recent struggles is that I haven't been able to watch the game. The only game I did watch was game 2 on mlb.tv archives (without knowing the score or anything).

I know what needs to be done--does anyone want to buy me satellite?

I told my manager I can work today from 5-10 and she gives me 2-7. Grr.. Now I can't watch the game. I am so upset. Oh and today two people in my class were wearing Marlins shirts :thumbup .
