Posted April 28, 200618 yr Amazing catch on Sheff's blast to left-centerfield wall and an article said he even got his shoulder got on the fence on his jump for the ball. Also starting to get going with the bat...2-4, RBI, 2 singles, but his power has been absolutely nothing. 2 doubles in 58AB.
April 28, 200618 yr The Rays really have stockpiled some talent in the OF. They do kind of seem to be enthralled with overrated fast guys though. But can you imagine a middle lineup with Gomes, Young, and Dukes?

But can you imagine a middle lineup with Gomes, Young, and Dukes? They'd definitely have some of the best bats in the majors....too bad they'd be hitting umpires and not pitches.
April 28, 200618 yr I just saw the video on MLB.com and I'm not that impressed or at least I've seen more amazing catches (see Torii Hunter)
April 28, 200618 yr Gathright is sweet. I watched the catch as it happened and it was pretty sweet. Not the greatest, but a fine catch. He's so fast.
April 29, 200618 yr That last part came out like it's synonymous with "he's so dreamy." He doesn't get to the ball without the speed. That's the point.

May 1, 200618 yr Isnt he batting like 230 now? anyone still wanna do that Olsen trade? :mischief His .350 OBP is more important :mischief Just because you're used to mediocre JP doesn't mean that .350 OBP with a SLG% similar to his BA doesn't make a good leadoff hitter. Leadoffs have to get on base at a .370+ clip at the very least to be effective.

The guy is sh*tting on Gathright for his poor average, when that far from tells the story because of the walks Gathright has been taking.

But can you imagine a middle lineup with Gomes, Young, and Dukes? Gomes would be the DH because Crawford would be one of the OF They also have Baldelli waiting to be ready to come back

May 2, 200618 yr Author Gomes is also suffering through a sore shoulder keeping him at DH. Gathright 0-4 today with a K. Still not hitting for average and he's stopped walking. Wonder if he'll turn it around. If anything his trade value is dipping...and dipping. I'd still trade Nolasco or Pinto for him.
May 3, 200618 yr Author He's stinking up the joint, but it's unlikely that this is his real level of production. I'd like Dukes too, but I doubt TB would deal him for anything less than Olsen and then some.

If anything its Dukes and then some for Olsen. Olsen value has been higher than Dukes for awhile now (past 3 years) and Dukes value keeps on decreasing. Elijah Dukes was sent home to Tampa last week from Triple-A Durham after getting into several shouting matches with a teammate and coach, according to the Tampa Tribune. Perhaps trying to show some leadership, Dukes blew up at an unnamed Bulls pitcher when the pitcher left the dugout for the clubhouse after being taken out of the game. But after he got on the pitcher, he got into it with hitting coach Richie Hebner, and the Rays had enough. According to some reports, Tampa Bay has suspended him for a week. The Devil Rays did not return comment .
May 4, 200618 yr Gathright is batting .203...I wonder if Tampa still demands Olsen for Gathright...at this point they would accept Nick Ungs and Brad Clontz
May 5, 200618 yr His numbers are just atrocious, and id see him getting any better but it is early in the season to tell. W/e happened to Roco Baldelli; maybe they'd be willing to trade him for some of our pitching. I'd do that trade instead of getting Gathright.
