September 18, 200619 yr I wouldn't mind Danys Baez at a contract of 3 years/ 10 million dollars or so. Wonder what the market will command for a guy like him ? cant remember the last reliever the fish have signed psdt one yr. we need to put the pipedreams of spending a lot on relievers to rest.
September 18, 200619 yr I would Love to see what Gange has left and take a chance with him, if is possible to get him. whats the latest w/ lidge i thought he was a free agent too?
September 18, 200619 yr I had said it a few times down the stretch. We should have obtained Brian Meadows for this season.
September 18, 200619 yr I say we take a chance on Kerry Wood. Im really hoping his injury history will scare a lot of teams off. WELL WELL WELL, Wood can't make long strech starts without getting hurt? Hmm why not make him a closer?
September 18, 200619 yr considering the media is already posting up "will they trade miguel and willis" articles again I doubt it that we will spend too much on relievers. look for bottom feeders again where Herges is a high priced retred we couldnt even afford.
September 18, 200619 yr You're looking at this all wrong. The reliever who pitches a lot of innings this year likely will come down with arm trouble the next. The reliever who is having an incredible year this year will struggle next year. Look for true TALENT, not observed statistical talent when considering players who play in short stints and often in key situations. If you want names, go for people with a history of quality performances who have worn out their favor being pressed into a role or work with a manager they were not able to succeed at.
September 18, 200619 yr Can we get a list of CF's that will be free agents this offseason? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/07/2007_free_agent_1.html hmm here are the free agent catchers for 07 http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2006/04/2007_free_agent.html slim pickins
September 18, 200619 yr The fact is, without taking a risk on some Todd Jones type, or some rookie... chances are you'll usually have to overpay in most cases for solid relief pitching, I for one would be all for having Bradford... but he is going to command a lot of money, as will a Kerry Wood and Keith Foulke... but I do have to say, this was a very informative post....
September 18, 200619 yr looks at those averages for CF... 2006 League Averages for Center Fielders: AL: .272/.335/.429 (.764 OPS) NL: .262/.333/.419 (.752 OPS) If Joe would've properly platooned Amezega in our last 2 weeks or so of games that could've made the small impact needed to take one of those close losses.
September 19, 200619 yr my dream bullpen: Tankersley Resop Speier Pinto Bradford Eischen Walker i believe we could get this bullpen and keep our payroll at about 30 mil. of course, this would mean getting a rookie CF, which sould be no problem

What about the other 3 games we blew this week?
