September 22, 200619 yr It's a good question, but really besides using someone on short rest or starting someone with no MLB starting experience (Pinto, Petit) we have no options... at least he did "decent" at Shea a few days ago. Would it be wrong to have Pinto/Petit warming alongside Moe in the pen before the game? That'd have to be a first. Oh and Simpsons reference time... Moe Moe Moe! How do you like me, how do like me? September 22, 200619 yr Author Not asked with any sarcasm Ramp, who would you pitch Saturday? Id go with Garcia but that's a tough task for someone who has never had a major league start. He was just so dominant in the minors with his BAA, that I think he could thrive in the role. If you want someone with a tad more experience, Id go with Pinto next. You can always have Moehler as the man coming in if things get shaky, but I feel like the young guys have a better chance of keeping the Phillies at bay and taking us deep into the game than does the Miami Hit Machine himself, Brian Moehler

September 22, 200619 yr I am no Moehler apologist but really he is the only option until we are officially eliminated he is the best chance we have to stay in the wild card race . Shame Johnson was so mishandled otherwise he might be pitching . BTW i wouldnt mind resigning Moehler and making him a middle reliver he did pretty good in that role just dont want to see him as a starter next year

He may be a great prospect, but he is too young, undeveloped, and inexperienced for a start here. As to the talent, I disagree if you mean in terms of their ability to move up and play right now in MLB. As far as talent projected into the future, our minor league system is so screwed up it's hard to say. The only thing I agree with you on there is that most organizations' top players (and I mean future superstars) don't spend much time in AAA these days, but their depth of "AAAA" type players and guys who can come up and contribute while a regular is injured, etc., is still in AAA. As to Moehler, agreed he is not doing that well lately, but I'd trust him more than a raw kid in the situation. Also, I trust Kranitz and Girardi to have an idea about whether he can get it done. They see him throw and talk to him between starts, we don't. I am certain that if they thought someone else was better able to give us a chance to win, that's who they would start.

September 22, 200619 yr The Phillies have notoriously struggled against new starters...Look at that kid Walrond against them before he gave up a run or two....I'd go with Garcia too.
September 22, 200619 yr He will be pitching against Lieber...last time we hit against Lieber at CBP I believe was game 5 of that 5 game series back in July or August. And we hit like 3 or 4 homeruns and scored like 15. It was a day game also. So there is actually a chance that we can give Moehler the run support he would need. But Moehler is the best option. Even if you expect him to give up 4 runs in the first, he can probably last through 6 innings or so, even when he's off. I'd be much more worried putting up a Rookie who may not last even into the 3rd inning. At least when you look at our bullpen. You might get lucky and get a couple of good innings from Pinto and Mitre, but I wouldn't bet on anything good from our bullpen before the 8th inning. So we need a guy who can last into the game.

September 22, 200619 yr Theres no doubt you start Moe in this position.... interesting.... why? Dont get me wrong, Im not a Moe LOVER but nor do I hate him. He knows the magnitude of this game. I mean read the papers today, there are tons of quotes by Moe of all people.. He knows what going on in these games. That being said that doesn't mean he will go out and throw a no hitter... I think he can pitch a solid 5 innings if he keeps that ball down. If I was Girardi I'll send out Moe.. But have a plan on who must come in if he struggles. Just have a short leash... Garcia or possibly Petit would be a good option coming out the pen if he does struggle... But overall you got to give the ball to MOE! We will find out if my idea is anygood, GO FISH!!
