Bad News on Travis Bowyer

Featured Replies

What are Travis Bowyer's chances of making the team next year, and is his shoulder injury healing?

-- Tonya M., Andover, Minn.

The shoulder problem that forced Bowyer out for the entire 2006 season required surgery. The hard-throwing reliever is expected to miss all of next year.

His presence alone could have answered many questions about our bullpen. A 2 year abscence is a very difficult ordeal to comeback from for any young pitcher

that was the hardest trade for me to take in terms of who we got back and who we let go....but on the plus side if we had held onto Castillo we would never have discovered Uggla.

This is true, but look at how deep Minn bullpen is. Rincon, Crain, Reyes, Guerrier, Nescheck, BESIDES Joe Nathan. How the hell did we end up with Travis Bowyer and Scott Tyler when they are 6, six, deep in RP better then anyone we have. Man that pisses me off haha. The Ron Villione trade is better then the Luis Castillo one. How does that happen? So depressing. Sure, I want Uggla over a RP when it comes down to it, but I don't like rationalizing it that way. We needed to get Crain, Guerrier, Reyes, or Nescheck for sure. This is the only one that stings me.

Less a rationalization and more dumb-luck "on the brightside." I certainly agree we should've been able to acquire a good, proven reliever.

Terry Ryan took Beinfest to school. It's a shame, since Castillo was arguably our most valuable commodity (who wasn't being bundled with someone else i.e. Beckett).

He probably used the injury bug against Beinfest...other than that though you're getting an average to above average position player with a very reasonable contract.

Here's to Scott Tyler having a stellar career.

The curse of Castillo. Really the only trade that got just about nothing in return...

Getting lucky on a rule v pick doesn't make the trade good. We got outclassed, plain and simple.

I still dont see who's saying this :lol

That we got lucky or that we got rammed?

BOTH!

How can one predict an injury? Did Bowyer have a history of arm trouble? Didn't he pitch well during his September call-up for Minnesota? Injuries are part of the game. I don't think it's fair to say we were "outclassed."

Tyler was still a pitcher on one knee and Bowyer was a pitcher with one pitch.

Even if Bowyer stayed healthy, the talent given and received was a world apart.

I think Tyler will be OK but Bowyer...well...his chance is so much less than a coin-flip right now. In all that, this is the one trade that may come back to haunt Beinfest. The funny thing it's the one that actually took the most time in completing. Go Figure!

yep, this one stumped me too. I was on board for most of the deals till this one was announced.

I was furious when I found out we traded a longtime Marlin and a valuable commodity for a relief pitcher, especially when going into ST we didn't appear to have a starting caliber 2B on the roster. Thank God Uggla proved us wrong, but I think most of us were assuming that at some point Andino was gonna be our starting 2B.

I said starting caliber...not many thought that Pokey was the answer at 2B.
