November 1, 200620 yr The mission was far from over when he landed on that carrier, and he should have known it. Even Pat Robertson told him to expect US casualties.
November 1, 200620 yr Bush or another republican for saying something stupid? When has was the last time Bush or another high ranking republican ever personally insulted millions of American servicemen serving around the world? 404 insult not found. From a military standpoint, Iraq was an incredible success. We overwhelmed and completely annihilated the Iraqi republican guard and the rest of their military and took the country in under 2 weeks quite easily. So yes, "mission accomplished" in that regard. ...Except that the Mission Accomplished had little to do with the actual military success...
November 1, 200620 yr This shouldn't be a partisan debate. Kerry said something stupid in the midst of political pandering and he needs to appologize. It's as simple as that. I don't hold the Democrats any more responsible for what Kerry said than I hold Republicans responsible for 90% of the stupid things Bush says on a weekly basis.

November 1, 200620 yr ?This is the classic GOP playbook"] :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy Best thing I've heard him say yet. John Kerry has to be the biggest loser I've ever seen. If I were a Democrat, I would be scared. It's people like him and Dean who make the Democratic Party look bad. HAHA John Kerry VOTED TO INVADE IRAQ!! REMEMBER?? What a joke he is....oh yeah, his favorite baseball player is Manny Ortiz! lol
November 1, 200620 yr Yankeefan, you're absolutely right. This shouldn't be a partisan thing, except the Republicans are making it that way. And if someone wants to talk about "insulting the troops", I want that person to watch this: "These weapons of mass destruction have to be around here somewhere. Nope, not under here."
November 1, 200620 yr Kerry has been so annoying sometimes. He is ten times better than the joke who is in the White House now. But he needs to stop trying so hard to pander for the 08 nomination which it's pretty clear he is doing.
November 1, 200620 yr he needs to stop trying so hard to pander for the 08 nomination which it's pretty clear he is doing. Yeah. And not going to get. I think he is alienating himself from his party - just like Dean.
November 1, 200620 yr Author John Kerry: The Gift That Keeps On Giving for Republicans did you just compare Kerry to herpes?

And if someone wants to talk about "insulting the troops", I want that person to watch this: "These weapons of mass destruction have to be around here somewhere. Nope, not under here." Weapons of mass destruction were thought to be found by ALL of our majors in the military....do your homework man.... then when there were thought to be WMD, John Kerry, among other Dems WANTED TO INVADE IRAQ!!! HAHAHAHA!!! Now that was just plain disgraceful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imXnwoTHxvg YEAH REALLY LOOKED LIKED A "BOTCHED JOKE" when you don't laugh afterward!!! haha Then it's so funny when he says "let me make this crystal clear" about 3 times.....HEY DUMMY! NOTHING IS "CRYSTAL CLEAR TO YOU!" You want to invade Iraq, no you want to leave! You lie about everything including your past military experience!! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO REPUBLICANS!! THIS WILL GET REPUBS OUT TO GO VOTE! I love it.
November 1, 200620 yr An absolutely disgusting statement and a slap in the face to every single person in our all-volunteer military force. I'm sick of the libs playing up this poor inner city kid with no place to go in the world has to go into the military and then die in Iraq. Simply not even close to the truth. This kind of statement is exactly why I'd love to have term limits in congress. I'm tired of these old curmudgeons who's thinking hasn't advanced since the 60s when it comes to the military and equates all military service now to that of Vietnam and those who didn't want to serve but had to because of the draft. November 1, 200620 yr John Kerry: The Gift That Keeps On Giving for Republicans did you just compare Kerry to herpes? No, I wouldn't compare a war hero to herpes. I just think he has some deep personal demons from his Vietnam experience and the attempt to politicize that keeps hurting him and helping the Republicans. It is a very sad thing.
November 1, 200620 yr What I find funny is the stupid finger pointed. If a republican says something stupid the dems jump all over it and make it a partisan issue, just like what happened with cheney and the torture comment the other day. And when a dem says somehtign stupid the reps do that same thing. The ultimate truth here is that Kerry should go up and say, "I meant it as a joke to criticize the President, as a former veteran myself I would never say anything to insult or degrade the members of the US armed forces and I apologize to anyone who misunderstood my comment as doing so." End of story
November 1, 200620 yr He was NOT insulting the troops, and you guys should know it. If he actually did, I would go after him. However, it is the GOP that is blowing this out of proportion.
November 1, 200620 yr He was NOT insulting the troops, and you guys should know it. Ummm. Did you hear his remarks? No, I wouldn't compare a war hero to herpes. Sadly, I'm not sure how much of a hero he was: "I didn't really want to get involved in the war," Kerry said in a book of Vietnam reminiscences published in 1986. "When I signed up for the swift boats, they had very little to do with the war. They were engaged in coastal patrolling and that's what I thought I was going to be doing." During the night of December 2, 1968, and early morning of December 3, Kerry was in charge of a small boat operating near a peninsula north of Cam Ranh Bay together with a Swift boat (PCF-60). The disputed story is that Kerry's boat surprised a group of men unloading sampans at a river crossing, who began running and failed to obey an order to stop. As the men fled, Kerry and his crew of two sailors opened fire on the sampans and destroyed them, then rapidly left. During this encounter, Kerry suffered a wound in the left arm above the elbow. Retired Lt. Cmdr. Grant Hibbard retells the incident, stating he can still recall Kerry's wound, and that "it resembled a scrape from a fingernail."[15] It was for this injury that Kerry received his first Purple Heart. Kerry received his second Purple Heart for a wound received in action on the Bo De River on February 20, 1969... Kerry's boat was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade round, and a piece of shrapnel hit Kerry's left leg, wounding him... Kerry received his second Purple Heart for this injury, but he did not lose any time off from duty. Eight days later, on February 28, came the events for which Kerry was awarded his Silver Star. On this occasion, Kerry was in tactical command of his Swift boat and two others. Their mission included bringing a demolition team and dozens of South Vietnamese soldiers to destroy enemy sampans, structures and bunkers. The passengers were let off for a firefight. Kerry broke from the fight and sailed a short distance along the Bay Hap river, running into an ambush. An RPG was fired at the boat. Kerry directed the boats "to turn to the beach and charge the Viet Cong positions" and he "expertly directed" his boat's fire and coordinated the deployment of the South Vietnamese troops, according to Admiral Zumwalt's original medal citation, which critics have complained was based on Kerry's own self-report. His third Purple Heart was awarded for the same incident, dependent upon incoming enemy fire. Others dispute this and say that his wound was received when he and Rassman, earlier in the day, blew up a cache of rice in order to deprive the Viet Cong, which was standard procedure. Kerry was wounded in the posterior, for standing too close to the blast, where rice was later removed from the wound. After Kerry's third qualifying wound, he was entitled per routine Navy regulations, to re-assignment away from combat duties. Navy records show that Kerry's preferred choice for re-assignment was as an aide in Boston, New York or Washington DC. When I was the NCOIC of receiving munitions in Germany at the end of the Gulf War, I received an award [worth ZERO promotion points] for something I will not get into right now. My Commanding Officer, who had been faking a stomach bug to get out of work so he could check out Germany, put himself in for an Army Commendation Medal, taking credit for the actions of "his" unit while under MY command. I just about puked when that weasel received his award. But I'm not bitter... :whistle

November 1, 200620 yr Everyone remember the outcry over Trent Lott's statement about Strom Thurmond? People wanted him to resign over that. Not saying that Kerry should resign over this, but this is far more offensive to me. That's just about the first thing I thought of when I heard this. Lott is no longer majority leader because of that. If you say something like this in politics, there's going to be consequences. That's what politics is. Fortunatly for Republicans, Kerry couldn't have said this at a worse time. Lots of Democrat candidates trying to distance themselves from Kerry. As an added note, our troops own:

You'll be hardpressed to find a LT who returns from Iraq without a Bronze Star. Doesn't matter if they were behind a desk in the green zone their entire time in country. The Bronze Star actually used to mean something but now it's been devalued as an end of tour award for junior officers and some high ranking SNCO's. As an added note, our troops own: That is awesome :lol :notworthy
November 1, 200620 yr Fact: Kerry won the Silver Star. Fact: Kerry made the statement. Opinion: I think Kerry had a "slip-up" and said an offensive statement. Fact: Kerry won't apologize. Opinion: I WANT KERRY TO APOLOGIZE!
November 1, 200620 yr You'll be hardpressed to find a LT who returns from Iraq without a Bronze Star. :lol A friend of mine from my old Unit went into a new unit after OCS. At the end of his tour in Iraq, he was trying to put himself in for a Bronze Star - I kid you not - for running a Postal Command. I told him I would not help him word his self-evaluation because it would be a disgrace if he received that award. He ended up getting an ARCOM, which is the award I think he was really after anyway. It's pathetic. I was able to retain a soldier once [in my recruitment and retention days] by putting in paperwork for him to win a Meritorious Service Medal.
