Beinfest 2nd in Exec. of Year voting

Featured Replies

I read in USAToday (can't find the link on the website) that Minnesota's Terry Ryan won executive of the year last night, with Admin Beinfest coming in 2nd. Hard to argue with Ryan as the winner, but if someone else deserved it, it would've been Beinfest.

If you think Ryan shouldn't have won it over Beinfest, take a second look at the Castillo trade.

That was the point I was going to make.

Again, we find ourselves in agreement.

*ding*

Considering that Bowyer's recovery from injury and Tyler's future are as yet undetermined, so it is far too early to consider the Castillo trade a bust.

Considering that the former was meant to be a healthy part of the '06 bullpen, yet was unable to get out of spring training, and the latter is known to have injury problems in the past...yeah, it's a bust.

so one trade makes you executive of the year?I'd say Ryan and Beinfest were apparently tied, but Ryan won the head to head matchup.

And if you think Admin shouldn't have won it take a look at the '05 off season and the subsequent '06 season. Teams knew Admin had to dump payroll and yet 6 guys get votes for ROY, the winner was aquired in a trade. A rookie that was aquired in a trade throws a no-no. A Rule 5 pick-up is an All Star and 3rd in ROY voting. Do I really need to go on???? And the best you can come up with is "look at the Castillo trade"??? IMO, Admin was robbed.

Good points. What gets me is teams gave up their best young talent to get guys that were overpaid. You would think they would of made Admin settle for some mid-level prospects. So considering how in each trade he got the best available I'd say he deserved it.

I've often thought to myself that neither GM was at fault in the Bowyer/Castillo trade but rather a young kid, trying to make it in the bigs, hid the injury he incurred during the last game of the season against KC, hoping by spring he would be okay and then found himself the centerpiece of a trade for Luis Castillo.

Ryan is an ethical guy and I don't believe for a minute he would have traded Bowyer has he known he was hurt. It's similar in some ways to AJ Burnett refusing to acknowledge his injury until after he signed his first big contract. I just think in the case of Bowyer he didn't think about the consequences of his actions.

Then it's the fault of Beinfest for not doing his homework on Bowyer and the medical staff for rubber stamping a physical.

Either way, Beinfest and the Marlins do not look good in that deal.

there should of been NL and AL executives of the year. Beinfest should of won this, he was robbed. We were supposed to suck this year and we finished around .500. How can't you give this to him? The castillo trade looked when it happened..Admin can't predict that they were gonna get injured (he's not that good :thumbup ). Bowyer still sounds like a good player to me. This Ryan guy picked up luis castillo (who hit .296, played good D, and had a great year) but that was it (wasn't it?). Beinfest put together a playoff-contending team with less than $20 mill., if you think there's any other GM in the big leagues that can do that, you're an idiot. Beinfest picked up hanley, jake, anibal, nolasco, etc. And he "found" uggla (who nobody else wanted) and Olivo.

ugh... more of this nonsense?

and the Castillo trade never EVER looked good.

and while that's "all" Ryan did, they did win the AL Central.

Well, the injury aside, I was never a fan of the trade. To trade an all star 2B who is a prominent feature of the conversation for best player at his respective position for a closer prospect (those are shaky to begin with) and a young arm (so, how many of those do we have again?). The player most loyal to the franchise got the biggest shaft and lowest value.

what were you honestly expecting us to do as well as we did this year?

maybe we could of gotten more for castillo, maybe that was the best deal offered..I liked bowyer I thought he would make a great closer.

Ryan didn't win the AL Central for them, the players did..most of the players he already had..Beinfest started from scratch basically.
