November 14, 200619 yr According to Rotoworld.com "Agent Jeff Borris said there is interest in Barry Bonds from unexpected sources. Now starting in left field for your Florida Marlins... 'There's interest outside of San Francisco,' he said. 'There are teams that don't characteristically sign free-agent players such as Barry that called and said they were interested. I was a little surprised. But how could you blame them? Barry has a chance to break the home run record in their ballpark'." WOW this would be the shocker of the OFFSEASON! How many other teams could fall under the category of "teams that don't characteristically sign free-agent players such as Barry"? Anyone remember January 2003 when we signed a guy by the name of Ivan Rodriguez???
November 14, 200619 yr This would be sick. Throw Bonds in LF hitting behind Miguel put Hammer at 1st flip Jake and a pitcher for a good CF'er and were set. Cabs would put up monster numbers...
November 14, 200619 yr maybe this will get fans in the seats. these rumors are funny anyway, since the majority on this board seem to want to believe that loria only cares about pocketing his revenue sharing money....

Not to nitpick, but you'd put Bonds in front of Cabrera because he's more of an OBP presence then a run producer presence at this stage of his career. Cabrera would have an astronomical RBI total and Hammer would have arguably the best lineup spot in all of baseball.
November 14, 200619 yr we really have no idea what team(s) he is talking about. could be the marlins, could be anyone

Pure cynicism about Loria on 2 fronts: 1. somehow Loria doesn't care about winning when he has shown he does 2. making money is somehow a bad thing.
November 14, 200619 yr what a great role model to have in the clubhouse with a bunch of kids. And I think you guys are forgetting that he's done. Not to mention he'd have to to like a 75% paycut to even be a possibility in a Marlins uniform. I'm think we're looking at the Nats, they are now sans a left fielder and certainly fit the same profile.

He played 14 games in 2005 and could barely run last season. A year older, another year of wear and tear. "He's done" doesn't constitute not being able to hit, especially if your body can longer handle the strains of playing everyday.

Well, I'll save the over-the-hill judgement for when he's not one of the best offensive players in the game....still.

I'd love that collection of players. I'd do minor tweaks such as flipping Rocco/Uggla in the order, removing Hermida versus LHP, Jose Garcia as the 5th SP to start off with, etc, but that's a really strong baseball team if they went out and got 2 veteran RP to plop in front of Tank, Pinto, Resop, and Mitre, and upgraded Reggie with a defense/speed 5th OF. Payroll for that team is $35 millionish. $38 with deferred payments to Delgado and Al Leiter. That's a big jump for Loria.

Let spring training decide the 5th spot and all
November 14, 200619 yr As an everyday player though??? WOuldnt it make more sense for him to hit the AL
November 14, 200619 yr As an everyday player though??? WOuldnt it make more sense for him to hit the AL Maybe he doesn't want to DH? I don't think his legacy needs to be tainted any further with accusations about his worthiness. Exactly, we're probably the only non-Giants NL team crazy enough to make a full court press in the opening stages. Remember, he and Loria had that plane ride together that had the Giants prepared to bring tampering charges...I'm sure this was discussed then. All Barry wants is to feel wanted and given the respect he feels he deserves. I think the Marlins would be willing to bend over backwards to accomidate, they'd be crazy not to if he's serious about coming here. Think about it, we'd be one of the three biggest road draws until he breaks the record, we'd surpass 2 million people at home for the first time since 1997 and Miami becomes a baseball market. :drool
November 14, 200619 yr To say Barry Bonds would be a perfect fit would be bordering on understatement. I would absolutely adore having Bonds in a Marlins uniform. Miggy would probably hit .370/.480/.650 with Bonds in front of him.
