Anyone getting it immediately?

Does anyone have a strong opinion about it, good or bad?

I saw it at Best Buy the other day and to me it didnt seem THAT much different.

I might pick it up right away because i'm a total IT geek and have to have the latest stuff. Plus it helps to have the right hardware right away to get the most out of it. :thumbup

Yeah. I loved it when it came out three years ago as OS X.

ALL HAIL THE MAC!!!!

Considering that it brings with it a significant downgrade in the performance of your system, I would definitely recommend you hold off on getting it until you buy a new computer that already comes with it.

IMO, purchasing the upgrade right now would be a huge waste of money. It's not worth it to pay big bucks for a minor functionality upgrade and a noticeable performance downgrade, particularly if you plan on replacing your computer some time within the next year or two.

In order to use it, I need to upgrade my memory to almost double or triple, add another hard drive about double my current one (for video editing and the such), and possibly upgrade my video card.

Same would have to happen with our other 3 Windows PCs......one of which is a laptop (aka hell to upgrade).

I think we will likely hold off until we replace the computers as that will be easier and cheaper.

BTW, I am running Mac OS X Panther on an original Blueberry iBook....Mac OS X PWNS.

I was playing around with it a little on a friend's computer. It's nothing special, especially for all the money and the extra drain on battery.

that's the same things i've heard about vista since the betas came out last summer. all it did was hog memory and take up 15 gigs of hard drive space. that's way too much. it's bloated and not too much upgraded aside from areo. some people claim it's a downgrade for different reasons, like being a computer lockdown and annoying pop up boxes that are supposed to be user account control.

and that's one of the reasons i'm running on a c2d macbook right now on tiger!!! i can't wait till leopard, but may hold off on it for a little bit.

Yeah, I haven't seen it yet, but I heard two things..

1 - It's very pretty... I guess Microsoft worried about cosmetics more than anything on this one.

2 - It's a horrible memory hog... A friend of mine said he was playing solitaire and that alone took 100mb of memory.

I'm probably gonna hold off for a bit. I work in an I.T department, so we should get copies in soon, but I'm still a big fan of WindowsXP.
