Marlins announce festivities for home opener on Friday, April 6

MIAMI -- The Florida Marlins will host the Philadelphia Phillies for their Home Opener on Friday, April 6, at 7:05 p.m. The Marlins will showcase a variety of activities prior to and throughout the game.

Parking gates will open at 3:00 p.m. and stadium gates will open at 5:00 p.m. The Fiesta Latina Happy Hour will begin at 5 p.m. at the Gate H Plaza, and fans are encouraged to be at their seats by 6:30 p.m. to enjoy all pregame festivities. All fans in attendance will receive a 2007 schedule magnet, courtesy of Papa John's Pizza. The first 15,000 fans will receive a Marlins scratch-off card, and 100 random fans will win a Dan Uggla autographed jersey.

The Home Opener festivities include:

? A special pregame ceremony recognizing Hanley Ramirez as the 2006 Jackie Robinson Award winner (N.L. Rookie of the Year), Dan Uggla as the 2006 MLB Players' Choice N.L. Rookie of the Year, and Miguel Cabrera for his 2006 Silver Slugger Award.

? Recording artist Chrisette Michele will perform the National Anthem. She is a recording artist from Island Def Jam records who has recently performed with Nas on both Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Show with David Letterman. Her debut album, "I Am," will be released on June 12.

? Four F-18 Fighter Jets from the United States Marine Corp (U.S. Navy) stationed in New Orleans will conduct a fly-over of Dolphin Stadium immediately after the National Anthem. Colors will be presented by the United States Army Color Guard, and Little Leaguers from South Florida will display a giant flag in center field during the Anthem.

? Alex Fernandez will throw the ceremonial first pitch to Charles Johnson, both members of the 1997 World Series Champion Marlins. This will begin a season-long celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Marlins' 1997 World Series Championship.

? Starting lineups will be announced utilizing the stadium's state-of-the-art video board, as well a special pyro display provided by the world-famous Zambelli International Fireworks.

That does sound like it'll be really cool. I hope I can make it to the game, but it's not looking likely.

I've got tickets. Outfield, upper deck (ugh). Maybe my dad will learn (I doubt it) that you have to buy tickets in advance to get the best seats. this happens all the time. We drove over to Ft. Myers for a red sox ST game, sold out. we got lucky, and some guy gave us tickets, for free. We flew up to new york for a bosox/yankee game , in september....i guess he thought he could get good seats for a cheap price. not. we got lucky again, and some guy happened to have 3 extra tickets. we were soooo lucky. gave them to us free. This happens at the marlins games, everyday. We buy tickets on gameday, 5 minutes before the start. We end up with fish tanks and if we're lucky we'll be able to move down to infield box.

They better have plenty of fish and pizza on hand...no pun intended...as it will be Good Friday no?

My wife already has chosen my shirt for me to wear on this night. One of my old ones with CJ throwing and with the caption, "Thou Shalt Not Steal." I thought it was a damn fine idea.

Right. Keep the rain away from there and double it up at my house. Heck when I water you can almost hear the ground making sucking noises.

What a defensive catcher CJ was. Was it the '97 season when he had 0 errors and only 1 passed ball? (and that "passed ball" should have been a wild pitch by Robb Nen).

No word on attendance?

Not yet

It's interesting, but are most people okay with Alex Fernandez after how things ended with him here?
