2 on one out and Julio's still in the game...what gives?

I know we can/will blame this on Julio, but some of the blame has to go to Freddi. The manager has to put the team in the best situation to win, and asking a guy to come into the game with one out and the bases loaded in a 2 run game is just not fair, epsecially when the move could/should have been made sooner.

In his defense, I will repeat what I said in the game thread. After seeing what happened to Girardi when he disagreed with the front office over personnel decisions, Fredi is in a very tough position as a new manager. He was brought in to be Beinfest's on-field counterpart, and until he has more experience on the bench, he's stuck following orders.

Still second guessing? Turned out not to hurt us, but I was hoping he would bring Gardner in when the previous batter was up.

At least they took him out after the walk. I just hope we don't see him again in a close game, and in close I mean within 10 runs.

also have to look at the only out that Julio did get out. the ball was smoked but it just happen to be right at Borchard.

In his defense, it was just Julio's second save chance and I'm sure he's supposed to be given every shot to close since that was what he was acquired for.

 

However, Freddi went and got him in just the second chance of the season. Have to give him credit for that.

basically to sum up what he said, is that if Julio cant close games Beinfest is going to have to realize and make Fredi move him down in the bullpen. Because that would give the other guys that are throwing well a chance to close things out. Then he said something very true, which was an offense cant keep getting knocked down when someone can't close out a game.

 

Now i am just summing up what he said, but anyone else can correct me or add on.

lol so ghetto, but gets the job done.

You can second guess all you want.. if this is later in the season, the plug is pulled quicker. He's just looking for the guys (Pinto, Julio) to make one good pitch and turn the whole inning around and give them some confidence... but it just wasn't happening.

He thought he was Lovie Smith for a second

Fredi put him out there, because one blown save does not make you a bad closer, and he did the right thing by warming up another pitcher so that Jorge had a short leash. April is where you find out who can do what, when.

Just so everyone's aware, I wasn't second guessing sending Julio out there, I fully realize that is what needs to be done. I'm second guessing the fact that Julio was left in to face another batter after allowing the tying run to reach scoring position and the only out recorded was a lucky out. We were very fortunate that Julio could not find the zone and walked the bases loaded. If anything had been near the zone, I'm confident in saying that the outcome would have been greatly different.
