April 22, 200719 yr i'll concede that judging anybody based on one start is retarted, but today petit finished with 7 IP, 4 H, OBB, 5 K's and 2 HR's allowed Against the Giants, possibly the worst offense in baseball. Still a good start though.
April 22, 200719 yr 7 IP, 4 H, 2 ER now. Kd Bonds looking to start the 7th. We gave up this young arm for Julio and plus paying Julio A LOT more money! :banghead :banghead :banghead Although Obermueller did have a good Start it still hurts.
April 22, 200719 yr Let me get this straight. Obermueller-Marlins wins, Petit-Diamondbacks lose, somehow this was bad? When the NL West sees Petit more than once they'll like him up like a Christmas tree. As Chewie points out this was the offensively woeful Giants he was facing. His deception only works when he's seen very, very infrequently. Otherwise if he's pitching every five days at this level, he's going to be fresh meat. (If I'm wrong at the all-star break anyone who wants to call me on it can, and I'll be glad to post an "I was wrong" thread and you can all take your shots at me.) As for Tyler, is it really such a big deal he wasn't used? I mean, if you guys who went to spring training games and saw him pitch then you would know the biggest problem with him is he won't let a catcher call the game. He insists on calling every pitch himself regardless of how bad the result. And in spring training (I think the last game I saw him pitch was against Baltimore at FTL) the results were disasterous. I think there's even a thread here about him being a block-head during spring training. My guess is they brought him up as a carrot, just to say "...you have the stuff. If you want to be here, get your head on straight, listen to your catcher and maybe next time you'll even have a chance to earn your stay". I keep looking for the "Marlins Win !!!!!" thread but I guess that's too much to ask for. We've just had back to back wins by a team that looks like it was put together in a MASH ward (and oh BTW Aaron Boone is having a far better offensive season than Wes Helms), winning with the second-stringers, even against the Nationals was a good experience for this team and when we get healthy there's alot of good baseball to look forward to this summer. Enjoy the freakin' day. Now let's go get the Braves !
April 23, 200719 yr Id be willing to bet neither turns in a quality start Sham I am happy to say you were wrong ...Obi had a pretty good outing I was very happy to be wrong :thumbup
April 23, 200719 yr And it was, by definition, a quality start. That marks the 5th for the Marlins in 18 games this season (Willis 3, Sanchez 1, Obermueller 1). I'd say that his performance today earned Obermueller another big-league start. Best post in this thread. Props to Oby. Hey, high picks like Borch and Olvio came here and turned it around (to a certain degree), why not Wes Obermueller? Hey, this Hawkeye Fan can dream. He had his bit of wildness this game but did what we asked of him.. he did what a 4/5 starter needs to do. I'd love to give him more starts... just keep us in the game and let Hanley/Miggy do the rest. We've seen 1st hand what he can do when he's on.. I know thats not a good deciding factor (Carlton Loewer anyone?) but still. I'm not saying the guy is a saving grace.. but just keep us in the game for christ sakes. I absolutely HATE when we get down big early. Just give the boys a chance and they'll make some magic happen. As far as the Petit-dumbass trade goes.. you win some, you lose some. If you lose sleep over it, you wont live a happy life. I'm pretty confident in believing in Beinfest. You can scoff at that if you want but I'm pretty sure this guy puts us in the best position to win with what he's got. Yea, he's had his Bowyers and his Julios.. but hes also had his Hanleys/Anibal, Uggla, Owens/Lindstrom.. hopefully Gregg.. gave Olivo a chance.. found cast-offs like Amezaga, Borchard, Ross (who would be wonderful players if they werent counted on to start and contriube.. in other words very good bench/role players)... All Im saying is, Petit can go on to lead a wonderful career (and i hope he does), you just cant let this be a deciding factor.. especially for a guy who didnt have a higher ceiling than 10 guys in our system
April 23, 200719 yr I didn't know this game wasn't televised until we were listening to the post game show on the way home. But I could tell by this thread as well. Obby actually pitched a damn fine game. At least after he settled down in the 1st inning. Had us scared there for a while. But then he simply shut them down for the most part. He took a 1 hit (starting to really dislike Zimms LOL) shut out into the 7th inning before Hanley lost a high one in the sun and had that "hit" bounce off his glove. He isn't "the answer" but for a fill in he is acceptable. And I like a pitcher that can swing a bat. BTW Anyone that thinks Miggy is healthy enough to be playing right now sure wasn't at this game. I've seen blue hairs with walkers move faster.
April 23, 200719 yr Well Wes didnt give up 127 runs in only 2 innings as some in this thread thought he would. I think i called it.....and wes had a good game. That sound you hear is Wes-O haters becoming fans :mischief
