:angry Blaming this loss on a fan who tried to catch a foul ball is ridiculous. What about Prior bouncing one to the backstop? What about Alex S Gonzalez not fielding a ball cleanly? What about giving the DAMN MARLINS SOME RESPECT!!! THEY BEAT YOU TONIGHT!!! :censored :fyou

HELL YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

they blamed their sucky a$$ existance on a goat and now this fan

As the White Sox fans have told us, the Cubs fans are pathetic. (Not all of them obviously)

The fact that they would come after this guy is a total joke. There were at least a half-dozen people all reaching to grab that ball. Most fans would be doing the same thing.

The Cubs blew this game, not the fan.

It was Gonzalez who tanked the play at shortstop. It was Mark Prior who could not pull himself together after that play in the stands & wound up walking Castillo. It was Prior who with 2 strikes on Pudge left a breaking ball over the middle. It was Farnsworth who got taken apart by Lee & Mordy.

And most of all, it was the Magical Marlins who they were facing.

That's okay Cubs fans & national media & ESPN. Don't give any credit to the Marlins. No sense changing your tune at this point.

this was more of a Cubs losing, not the Marlins winning type game...

but Ill take it

i will take another just like it...

Anyone see sportscenter? Cub fans were throwing Beer and other liquid on the poor guy and he just sat there whiping it off his face and watched the game. Just classless...99.9 % of the fans would have done the same thing(like the 5 other arms that were reaching for it)

oh it was so great when they were showing the shots of the stunned yuppie cubs fans in khaki cub hats sitting there in total silence. they were so sure it was the right thing to do to pay $2000 to see their precious cubbies make history and win it tonight, there was no doubt after taking the lead with jesus prior on the mound that they were going to be partying in the streets tonight. MARLINS WIN! MARLINS WIN! lets do this tomorrow

welcome to the boards ihatethecubs

I do hate that fan though and if something happens to him I would only feel slightly bad.

I saw the above quote posted on a Cubs board (Windy City Sports) this morning by a Cubs fan. Only one fan made this statement, but nobody else has disagreed with it so far. I'm amazed that people (even Cubs fans) would take the game so seriously that they would say something like this. It's only a game folks.

I agree. For one thing, it was at least three fans who were trying to catch that ball. Just like anybody else would. It's easy enough to say you'd get out of the way, but there's a safety factor involved too. If you see a pop up coming down at you, you have to be thinking about protecting yourself. They didn't reach out over the field and steal away a hit, or a home run. They tried to catch a foul ball in the stands.

The only curse I see is the one of the "scapegoat".

BTW, that attitude of blaming someone for the loss is the mark of a loser, not a champion.

Like VivaMagglio said, the local media here in Chicago "counted their chickens before they hatched" and basically said the Cubs would win before the first pitch. I wrote an anchor and told how I perceived the local coverage, and just let her know that the "Cub lovers" ar hers and other stations didn't give the Marlins a chance...the Fish were just supposed to lay down and die. In fact, the fan who interfered on that foul bal was escorted out the ballpark, and there isn't enough videotape in Chicago to film what happened to him before, during, and after the incident.

You should've seen it...local newscasts were taking place just outside of Wrigley Field...reporters were placed everywhere near the ballpark, and they were all saying in one way or another the Cubs winning game 6 was inevitible. In fact, I saw a newscast earlier this week take place on a rooftop across the street from the right field bleachers. Boy...talk about arrogance. Well...the collective "egg on their face" tastes pretty good with some sausage and hash browns right about now. I like my eggs scrambled, by the way.

I agree with VivaMagglio when he says for us Sox and Marlins fans to not get cocky over this win. Kerry Wood is hard to beat, but he is beatable. The Fish could've beaten him Saturday night, but the Fish left the bases loaded twice...including the bottom of the 9th. So, the Marlins have to bring in the runs when they get the chance. The Cubs aren't going to die without a fight.

GO FISH...DO THE IMPOSSIBLE...BEAT THE SCRUBS!!!!!

I can't stand Cub fans. They're so damn arrogant! I LOVED the look on their faces during last night's 9th inning.

That was great...

LMAO! They showed this kid with his mouth open in disbelief. I was laughing my a** off.

Im from NY and am fighting off every anti marlin fan in the city. That fan did what every person in that seat would have done. The marlins want this and I intend fully on seeing them here in NY saturday night!!!

The saddest thing was not the stunned faces of young children but the old faces of hopes lost!!!!!!!!! BOO HOOO lets go marlins :w00t !!!!!1

AMEN! :marlins

I wouldn't have stuck my hand out to try to catch it because I'd be ducking, but I honeslty believe that had it happened in St. Louis, yes, the fan probably would have been booed but more of the booing would be because the ump didn't rule interferrence, but I also honestly believe that Cardinals fans would not tell him he cost of the WS and they would not throw beer at him.

That Cubs fan as a place in Cardinals or Marlins nation if he wants it. I feel that both our teams fans would treat him good for the rest of his life. ;)

cub fans take everything to serious.

I havnt said anything too bad about Cubs fans thus far, but to treat one of their brethen in this manner has sold me. Cubs fans are a**holes. Throwing beer on the guy so hes forced to leave the game? Ridiculous. I feel sorry for him and his family.

i cant believe them!

thier sick!

excellent, excellent post.

KeysWayne, that quote should be picked up by all the sports writers.

especially someone over which you have no control. what the Cubs had control of was what happened on the field, and they gave up 8 runs in that inning. how many pitches did that fan throw?

well the cub fans are desperate 2 win a ws.-u cant blame them for it-its just how they are-thier losers.

I was listening to sporting news radio last night, and they were all complaining about the fan, not Prior's lack of focus. Not Gonzalez's lack of focus. That whole situation sprung from the Cubs not staying focused and winning the game. They gave up. Our team took advantage. And Ramp, the Marlins very much won that game. They took it from the Cubs, their fans, the media, hell - most of America! The Marlins had to get the hits. They had to get runs. They took it to the Cubs who melted after one silly little foul ball. Alou lost it. So did the Cubs.

Tonight, is going to be the hardest game of our lives. The hardest game of the year. Lets go to war men...finish what we started.

Are you talking to anyone on this board or just in general? I haven't seen many Cubs fans whining here....

Cub fans can act like animals, but we just need to ignore them. Game 7 will be a thriller.
