August 15, 200719 yr Either way I'm in a win/win situation. Easterling has apparently looked great at WR early on at FSU practices. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.
August 15, 200719 yr I really hope we come through with Easterling. It would be sweet to add a stud CF prospect. No way on St. Luce though, guys that commit to Vanderbilt rarely sign. See: David Price drafted by the Dodgers and offered huge money and Pedro Alvarez drafted by the Red Sox and offered HUGE money. These are true student athletes.
August 15, 200719 yr Really sucks. I have a good feeling that 3 years(or 4) at Vanderbilt will turn St. Luce into a 1-3rd round pick. Oh well, Vanderbilt is a good school. In the greatest city on the planet too.
August 15, 200719 yr 7 hours to go and 6 players left to sign in the first round. Devil Rays: David Price Royals: Mike Moustakas Cubs: Josh Vitters Orioles: Matt Wieters Diamondbacks: Jarrod Parker and of course us. Just to update it, Porcello signed a huge contract, surpassing Beckett as the highest ever. Brackman signed a ridiculous 4million dollar MLB contract with the Yankees, so stupid. Word is that Jarrod Parker might be injured, thus affecting his negotiations. He was the guy the Marlins wanted too, might have dodged a bullet with that one.
August 15, 200719 yr So what happens if these guys don't sign? They all get signed by the Yankees? Or do they have to wait a year and enter next year's draft? (I'm guessing it's this one)
August 15, 200719 yr So what happens if these guys don't sign? They all get signed by the Yankees? Or do they have to wait a year and enter next year's draft? (I'm guessing it's this one) The HS guys can play a year of JC and then reenter or go to college and then enter again in three years. The college guys just reenter next year. Also it should be noted that this year a new rule was established where if you do not sign your draft pick, you get the same pick in next years draft. So for instance if the Drays do not sign Price they would get the #1 overall pick in the 2008 draft. We would get the #12 pick next year, but everything I have read so far makes me believe we will definitely sign Dominguez. I'm not worried.
August 15, 200719 yr Update: David Price signs an 8.5 million dollar deal with the Drays. Only 5 left now...
August 15, 200719 yr As of right now, here are the players who have not yet agreed to contracts: First Round (Number is their draft order) 2. Mike Moustakas (Kansas City) 3. Josh Vitters (Chicago Cubs) 5. Matt Wieters (Baltimore) 9. Jarrod Parker (Arizona) 12. Matt Dominguez (Florida) First Round- Supplemental 5. Julio Borbon (Texas) Second Round 5. Joshua Fields (Atlanta) 20. Hunter Morris (Boston) NOTE: Hunter Morris is not expected to sign with the Red Sox, and will likely go to college instead.
August 16, 200719 yr Big news out of KC is that the Royals pick, Mike Moustakas is going to college. That would be a huge blow to KC's rebuilding, most had him rated as the best hitter in the draft. Could just be some last hour posturing from Boras though. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/royals/story/233027.html

We won't know for sure until tomorrow.

August 16, 200719 yr The Marlins have signed California high school third baseman Matt Dominguez, the 12th overall pick, for $1.8 million. His draft slot was $1.62 million, while his bonus represents the 2006 slot figure. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/draft/
August 16, 200719 yr Glad he finally signed. Not to defend Loria or anything, but he's always shelled out the money for the draft picks.

Well the draft order has to be a 12a & a 12b....which gets precedence ? The team with the 12th position after this year or our 12th pick from last year ? What happens if you don't sign a guy with you compensation pick from the year before ? Do you get another pick the next year ?
August 16, 200719 yr Looks like Wieters is'nt going to sign with the O's. They are 2 million apart and the O's arent going up and it doesnt look like Boras will go down.
