October 19, 200322 yr I was listening to Fox Sports Radio last night, and the guy was saying how the Yankees are the Yankees and they did not have to win this game. I completley disagree. Lose tonight and we have to win only 2 of 3 at home. Lose tonight and face Beckett, the hottest pitcher in baseball, looking to go up 3-0. Can the Yankees afford to lose tonight?
October 19, 200322 yr Of course they can. They are the Yankees. But I wouldn't suggest they would be comfortable there.
October 19, 200322 yr If they want to come to Miami down 0-2, then its not really a must win. But I'm sure the Yanks would love to see this thing tied 1-1 for the three games here in Miami.

Yankees have done it before though. In 1996 against the Braves they lost the first two at home, and were outscored 16-1 in the process, and then won the next four. For any other team in baseball, this would be a must-win. But the Yankees have been there so many times that they know it's not over until one team wins four games, not two, not matter whether they are.
October 19, 200322 yr The difference is that this isn't the same team that was there in 96, 98, 99, and 2000. But... they're still the Yanks.
October 19, 200322 yr No, it's not a must win. If the Marlins can come back from 3-1, the Yankees can do it from 2-0. And as far as Beckett pitching Game 3, I hope we all realize by now that just because an ace is on the mound doesn't mean the other team has to lay down their bats and gloves. Consider: in games pitched by Pedro, Wood, and Prior this postseason, their teams have gone 5-5. Beckett gives us a good chance, but that's all.

October 19, 200322 yr these arent the same yankees, they only have 3 clutch hitters now, jeter, williams, posada, and they make more mistakes, boone ect, and there pitching is a litttle older, wells used to be lights out, clemens is still good but not as good as he used to be, pettite is older too, and mussina is also not as good as be4, so there not the same yankees, thell make mistakes and theyre beatable, remember they havent won a ws in two years.
October 19, 200322 yr If this is a must-win for NY, then they're screwed, because we're going to beat them. With a lefty on the mound, they don't stand a chance against us, IMO. And if we go back to PPS with a 2-0 lead, look for us to finish this series in Florida.
October 19, 200322 yr i dont know. in my opinion the words scared, yankees and october dont go together. i know they're not the same yankees but they're still the Yankees so we cant rely on them being scared. thankfully our team is never scared either
October 19, 200322 yr Yes, it is a must win. But then again, every win is a must win. If you are going to win the World Series, you MUST win 4 games. That is all...and the same goes for the Marlins - who only have to win 3 of 6 right now. Win tonight, and they only have to win 2 of 5.
October 19, 200322 yr Can the Yankees afford to lose tonight? No. If the Yanks lose tonight, the Marlins win in 5 games - tops.

October 19, 200322 yr I wonder if the New York governor will offer WC a free 3 month stay in New York City if the Yankees win tonight...
