August 27, 200718 yr Loria is not gonna spend any money.. Basically were gonna have the same team Minus probably Willis or Cabrera... Untill this stadium thing gets done expect bad teams.... Last year was just guys overachiveing... this year if we would have had pitching it would have been a better team but still no playoffs... We need a catcher..we need a 1B...major bullpen help....and Hermida needs to step up and be the player everybody thinks he can be for a full year... And of course we need a healthy 5 starters....

August 27, 200718 yr I don't think it changes anything for next year. If anything, it may make us even better as nothing would have been worse for this team than this group of guys finishing around .500. Then you just blame injuries and you have the same stale team. Now we cut bait on one of Jacobs or Hammer, we non-tender Olivo and we look for a center fielder since De Aza hasn't shown any world beating ability. Plus, given our team needs coupled with this upcoming offseason, I think we can improve markedly. You have tons of middle of the lineup bats that would take one year contracts, you have several catchers who won't need more than a 2 year deal and of course we're meant to have all this young pitching that teams value. I like the fact (kind of) that we're so bad that we need a change around Miggy, Hanley, Hermida and Uggla.

After last season, never in my wildest dreams would I imagine all of the pitching injury problems suffered by our team in just one year. Not to mention the legal problems of Scott Olsen and Dontrelle.

August 28, 200718 yr if our pitching staff is even semi healthy and we manage to stay out the cellar of all the worst pitching categories, we would be at least 10-20 games better than we are now...i think we will be very competitive next year...but not quite enough to make a run at it

August 28, 200718 yr Unless some of the pitching comes back around, more of the same. If Willis and Olsen duplicate their horrific seasons more of the same even if Nolasco and Sanchez come back.

I like being able to drive right onto the turnpike after a game. And by next year they may have all that construction done in Broward. That's like an obstacle course at 11:00 PM during the week.

August 28, 200718 yr I agree with Ramp. Nowhere to go but up right now. It could always get worse, but I don't see it. I believe both Cabrera and Willis will not be traded. We have a very good offense that could be great with a well known couple of holes plugged. I believe both starters and bullpen will improve next year, and that includes Dontrelle getting his groove back. Our defense improved over last year, and I believe it will continue to do so.
August 28, 200718 yr The offense should be top 3 or 4 and could be even better if the holes at C, CF and 1B are filled. I assume the rotation will include Mitre, Olsen and Willis along with Nolasco. Willis should bounce back but I would expect the other 3 to end up with a combined ERA in the 4.75 to 5.00 range and that's bad. Anibal could help but I don't know when he'll be back.
August 28, 200718 yr If ownership decides to plug some of the holes via free agency than we might be contenders by next season. If we decide to "plug" some of the holes via our crappy in-house options than I think we will need to wait another offseason before considering the roster play-off caliber. Look at the rotation. As of this moment only Willis, Olsen and Mitre can be considered lock and even then two of the three have been terrible this year. Willis is nowhere near where he was in 2005. He is nowhere near where he was last year and he wasn't very good. Olsen still has the stuff but can he control his emotions and continue to develop? Sanchez's return is questionable due to the type of surgery. Nolasco has been sidelined twice this year because of the elbow problem and I'm willing to bet it will pop-up again before Opening Day 2008. Assuming the overlords don't open their wallets and one or two of those arms go down for an extended period of time (very possible), is a rotation with guys like RVH, BK Kim and Barone play-off caliber? Oh and the defense has to improve ten-fold before next year as well.

Well, if that is the case, and we still don't have that deal for the new ballpark, I believe we can start saying bye to the fish playing in South Fla. :|
