December 6, 200718 yr Eric- you are killing yourself throughout this thread. How accurate do you really expect to be able to project a guy's minor league stats into MLB reality when he has a total of six games above A ball? As for "he will at least catch balls," I saw him play in the AFL and he runs a skinny post to just about every ball. He will be thrown out there, and he will struggle, because he has 'a total of six games above A ball." His primary qualification is that he looks like he should be good. I am inherently suspicious of "can't miss" prospects that have not played much, and have yet to show the earmarks of a major league hitter. Funny thing is, once he's on the team I might be in a position of liking what I see and have to read a million "ZOMG he sucks!" threads because he didn't walk on water right away. HE'S GOT AN .884 OPS IN HIS MiLB CAREER. HE HAS PRODUCED. THIS ISN'T THE PRODUCT OF ALL HYPE. HE PRODUCED MUCH MORE SO THAN HANLEY EVER DID IN THE MINORS! Well said. No one seems to remember that Hanley was all "tools" and no stats. Whereas the illustrious Yusmerio Petit was all stats and no tools. It's not realistic to think Maybin, much less anyone, will produce anything even close to what Hanley did his rookie year (and beyond). But Maybin DOES have all the "tools" and he has the minor league stats that are very impressive. Unless he looks completely lost in ST, there's no reason he shouldn't be thrown out there. He doesn't have to be the savior to this lineup (yet)...so throw him to the wolves. He'll be fine. We finally have the CF that most people here have been dying for.

I don't see the logic in taking a toolsy kid who isn't ready and wasting a year of his MLB time. I agree that he has all the tools you could possibly want, but if they wait on him he will be that impact player and be cheap at the same time. Otherwise he will end up getting traded while coming into his prime like Miggy. (ZERO comparison to Miggy other than the fact that he's awesome and "unaffordable")

December 7, 200718 yr If it were me, right now (obviously ST gives you a better direction) 1. Maybin 2. Uggla 3. Ramirez 4. Hermida 5. Willingham 6. Jacobs 7. 3B 8. C 9. P I don't think 7-9 is going to change no matter who's in those spots. The real question IMO is between 4-6. The only reason I have it that way is due to the lefty and righty situation. You want to break up the lefites and righties, and I would personally rather have Hermida in that cleanup role than Jacobs at this point in time. Again, that's at this point in time. Four months from now, who knows. Jacobs is more of a natural clean-up guy, but Hermida is smiply better. In this particular lineup we have two 3 hitters batting 3-4...
December 7, 200718 yr jesus h christ Uggla has absolutely no business being in the top 5 You're gonna argue with the numbers? Hitting in front of Miguel, now Hanley, helps him amazingly. He's a straight fastball hitter. Where's he gonna see more of those than in the two spot?

December 7, 200718 yr Some peoople go a little overboard with critiquing Uggla... He's top of the order materal. Period. why is that?

I'd rather have him at the 2 and drive in Maybin with doubles and homers. His OBP was sh*t this past year, and Ramirez still almost led the league in runs. Granted Miguel hit third, but you could easily say the same thing could happen with Maybin and Ramirez.

Who DO we have to be our #2 guy? Hermida? You don't think he'd benefit us more in the middle of the lineup? The ONLY option I could see from your point of view would be this: 1. Maybin 2. Hermida 3. Ramirez 4. Jacobs 5. Uggla 6. Willingham 7. 3B 8. C 9. P I understand that reasoning... But I could easily see Uggla K'ing 140 times and hitting .230 with a .300 OBP with just Willingham behind him.
December 7, 200718 yr There's absolutely 0 reason why Uggla should be batting ahead of Hermida, Hanley, Hammer, or even Jake.... well, maybe Jake but I tend to think if he is healthy he's pretty good

So, what can you contibute to this thread besides "you're wrong, I'm right"?

So, what can you contibute to this thread besides "you're wrong, I'm right"? I can't believe this is a serious request. Dan Uggla can kill an inning faster than anyone. He can also save an inning. Why don't you put his hit or miss style in the hole and let him have the occassion of saving innings. He will ruin innings as well, but at least he's not ruining them around Hanley, Hermida, and Maybin.
December 7, 200718 yr The problem with Maybin at the top part of the lineup is that we will have to get use to seeing a lot of strikeouts until he matures a bit more as a hitter. Shadez should continue to lead off for awhile, while Maybin gets his bearings. Maybin will probably fan as much or more than Uggla

So the two MLB managers who have decided to bat him second the last two years are incorrect for doing so? Like I said, would you rather have Hermida in the middle of the order or Uggla? Hermida can hit anything, and has great patience. Uggla is a straight fastball hitter with little patience. Of course Dan isn't you're typical 2-hitter. But he's also not the ideal power bat with patience/contact you want in the middle of the lineup.
