December 5, 200718 yr I don't see how have a low MLE in A ball, which every single player does, correlates into being a AAAA player.
December 5, 200718 yr ...Maybin was in A ball in 2006. It's kind of hard to have a large MLE when you're in A ball. Hence my point about not being ready. We are going to put a pork chop around his neck and toss him to the wolves. It will be interesting to see what they do with him next year. In all likelihood, he will be starting Opening Day, although even the Tigers admitted after his short stint with the big club that he wasn't ready. And he will no doubt experience a lot of growing pains next year.
December 5, 200718 yr Bleh any lineup without Cabs is a lot more depressing to look at. So we're seriously looking at a Boone and Treanor more than likely filling out the lineup. Meh. When will Anibal be good to go? I thought I remembered that he was going to be out into next season.
December 5, 200718 yr I don't see how have a low MLE in A ball, which every single player does, correlates into being a AAAA player. It doesn't. He is just not ready. My fear of the AAAA player is due to his merits being speculative and physical and his flaws being measurable. His best asset is that you cannot teach somebody to be as great of an athlete as this kid obviously is, and if the skills develop he will be great. But he has a big swing and the complaints about him deal chiefly with his lack of instincts for the game, which tossing his ass out there (which we will almost have to do) may harm his development. The Tigers already rushed him before he was remotely ready and he struggled. I expected MLB-ready players (and we were offered some) for our top 2 guys, and I think that, at best, Miller might be, and that Maybin isn't.

He was then moved to the outfield because of miguel cabrera and mike lowell and finally moved to catcher in hopes to find him a spot on the field in the majors. With consistent playing time next season he would put up a miggy defense so no downgrade there and it is much easier to find a left fielder then third baseman. he is the logical choice to start third between him and uggla. uggla has no throwing accuracy from that distance so you downgrade defense at third and finding a second basemen with offense is much more difficult then a left fielder
December 5, 200718 yr 1. Maybin (cf, R) 2. Hermida (rf, L) 3. Hanley (ss, R) 4. Hammer (lf, R) 5. Jake (1b, L) 6. Uggla (2b, R) 7. Rabelo (c, S) 8. Amezaga (3b, S) platoon with Andino(my guess) 9. pitcher I think this could be our best batting order in 2008. How 'bout that?
December 5, 200718 yr He's got a herniated disk dont know how much bending over he's going to be able to over at 3b before it flares up.
December 5, 200718 yr He's got a herniated disk dont know how much bending over he's going to be able to over at 3b before it flares up. and cabrera had a gut the size of a keg doesnt mean he cant play the position for a year before he gets traded next offseason which would be a smart baseball move considering he is likely to start to decline and his cost is going to skyrocket
December 5, 200718 yr I say move a bullpen arm to KC for Teahen. Teahen can play 3B and is without a roster spot in KC right now.

Will he be able to hold up the season? he cant hold up for a season in left field so if boone is resigned he would be able to get plenty of starts giving off days to willingham and jacobs which i believe they both need. i love willingham but hes not built for the national league and in hopes of a better career a trade to an AL team after next season would be best for him
December 5, 200718 yr I am so pumped about having Cameron Maybin. Just been reading some more scouting reports on him, and I truly believe he will be a superstar. He is without a doubt the most talented player ever to roam that monstrous CF in Joe Robbie Stadium. To me a star CFer is the most exciting position to watch on the baseball diamond behind a stud pitcher. I am so jacked up, and Maybin is instantly my favorite player on the Marlins. I love this deal. Can't freakin' wait until April!

What about moving Uggla to 3B and putting Andino at 2B, with Amezaga at backup utility IF? Either one, yours or mine, is pretty likely.
December 5, 200718 yr Hopefully our line-up come opening day will look something like the following: 1) CF Barton (Rule 5 Draft) 2) RF Hermida 3) LF Williangham 4) SS Ramirez 5) 1B Jacobs 6) 3B Marte/Stewart (Indians or Rockies Uggla trade) 7) 2B Andino/D. Hernandez/Stewart (Rule 5 Draft or Uggla Trade) 8) C Innetta (Rockies Uggla trade) 9) Pitcher -Uggla traded to Rockies for Stewart and Innetta -Carlos Martinez traded to Indians Andy Marte -Leave Maybin in AA / AAA until mid season in order to get a better feel for the game and hold his arby clock back. (Current is no fun :lol )
December 5, 200718 yr I hope they throw the C job at Treanor, Baker, Rabelo and a Pat Borders-esque ML FA. Sign a swingman to abuse if necessary. How Iguchi for a fill in?
December 5, 200718 yr I hope they throw the C job at Treanor, Baker, Rabelo and a Pat Borders-esque ML FA. Sign a swingman to abuse if necessary. How Iguchi for a fill in? Iguchi will get a 2-year contract worth 6-7 million bucks and that's out of the Marlins price range. Think Corey Koskie, Tony Batista, Russell Branyan or Todd Walker for third base as they are the only free agents in the Marlins price range for 3B. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Marlins decided to go with Amezaga or Andino at 3B and that would be awful.

The payroll as it currently stands is at around 10 million. My God, you can spend $10 million more and still profit $50 million!
December 5, 200718 yr Dude walked at 13.4% clip in the minors.... Did you just invent a stat? The BB/PA%? His 2006 MLE OPS was .600, I can't find a 2007 figure yet, but looking at what he did and where he played it would likely be about .725. As for comparison to Reggie, Maybin may actually put something together, he is young and he will at least catch balls. Eric- you are killing yourself throughout this thread. How accurate do you really expect to be able to project a guy's minor league stats into MLB reality when he has a total of six games above A ball? As for "he will at least catch balls," I saw him play in the AFL and he runs a skinny post to just about every ball.
December 5, 200718 yr Trade Uggla ??? Hell nah... Yeah, I see Big Jake getting traded before Uggla. I have a real good feeling Jake won't be a Marlin next season.
December 5, 200718 yr Boy this trade Uggla bandwagon is really gaining steam here. You'll understand if I don't jump onboard. KC and the Marlins match up well at a number of positions and I hope Maybin isn't rushed. KC has so many outfielders they make LAA's outfield confusion look manageable. I'd be interested in pursuing Joey Gathright who can play all three outfield positions and could buy Maybin some time, and perhaps an expanded trade, but everyone knows the Royals are not keeping all those guys. I'd hate to rush Maybin on a number of levels.

He will be thrown out there, and he will struggle, because he has 'a total of six games above A ball." His primary qualification is that he looks like he should be good. I am inherently suspicious of "can't miss" prospects that have not played much, and have yet to show the earmarks of a major league hitter. Funny thing is, once he's on the team I might be in a position of liking what I see and have to read a million "ZOMG he sucks!" threads because he didn't walk on water right away.

HE'S GOT AN .884 OPS IN HIS MiLB CAREER. HE HAS PRODUCED. THIS ISN'T THE PRODUCT OF ALL HYPE. HE PRODUCED MUCH MORE SO THAN HANLEY EVER DID IN THE MINORS!
