Wild Card
How about Rabelo going 2-for-5 with a homer in his debut? Nice to see that. Maybe he has a little more pop than we think... That was a nice swing...
Malman
Will he get the start today with Miller on the hill? I'm hoping he does... :thumbup
MRMarlin93
I saw it. He looked good. I have a feeling he is going to become one of our main stars for years to come.
fanofthefish
Becomes 15th Marlin to homer in 1st game as a Fish. Oddly enough six of the previous players were catchers also. Mitch Lyden, CJ, Redmond, Randy Knorr, Pudge and Dookie.
Tee Ball Bunt Machine
I agree. I'm looking forward to more from Rabelo, even though Treanor has finally grown on me.
Marlins2003
Good point. I can be 100% wrong on this but I thought I heard Fredi say he might use Rabelo on Sunday (as if his thinking was to not rush him with back to back games), but after last night I'd guess Fredi's options are open. 30plus
So far Miller's 2 starts with Treanor haven't gone well (not that it's Matt's fault) so the move would pair him up with a familiar face. It could be a comfort level thing and regardless it changes things up for a struggling pitcher. It will be huge if Miller steps it up for us tonight and goes 6+ innings. 305_FishFanatic
I would personally give Rabelo a shot over Treanor. We've pretty much seen what Treanor can do, might as well give Rabelo a chance to earn the starting job.
Marlins2003
That's what I thought the pairings would be Treanor/Badenhop and Rabelo/Miller, but like I said I could be completely wrong about what I thought I heard Fredi say last night as I was only half paying attention. miamibaseball
i think our starter catcher is Treanor he been with team longer if Treanor donot play well than you replace them with Rabelo

I'd have to see more of his defense before forming an opinion. He obviously has more pop than Treanor, and hits from the left side which is a plus. However, with the pop we already have all over the lineup, we can afford a more defensive minded catcher. I wasn't a big fan of Treanor, but the way he plays has really grown on me. I'll take good defense and a .280 average or poor defense and some power. If Rabelo is good with the glove, then I think he will eventually get more playing time than Treanor. Either way it will probably be evenly split.
EricWiener
I'd pair them up with starters so that they will know their guys best.
fishfan97
I don't think he and Treanor will split time, Rabelo is the starter.

And I hope he has pop on both sides. And I hope they don't rush the transition from Treanor to Rabelo. Treanor has been hitting ok while improving every year. We know Olsen is comfortable and I think he might do better with Hendrickson as well, but that's just me. Ultimately I don't think Treanor is all that bad, and I figure in the worst case scenario in a close game, once there's also a pitching switch, you can bring in Rabelo to PH and have him work with the RP. Either way, if Rabelo can hit the way we are all dreaming of right now, it'll be a very nice addition to an already exciting lineup.
30plus
Here's how I would set it up with the current rotation: Hendrickson - Treanor Nolasco - Rabelo Miller - Rabelo Olsen - Treanor Badenhop - Rabelo One of Rabelo's perks is that he is supposed to be good at calling games and handling pitchers. IMO, Treanor does that as well as anybody. It helps to have both of them behind the plate catching a young pitching staff. Ultimately, the amount of playing time each gets will depend on their bats and their ability to handle the young guys. Treanor is hitting at a clip of .269 which is decent, but again too small of a sample size. Based on what each catcher did offensively last year, Treanor would have the edge. Yet alot of people think Rabelo will get better and the fact that he is a switch hitter is a big plus. But if Treanor continues to improve with the bat and hits 15-25 points higher than Rabelo then I'm fine with him starting 100 games this season. Rabbethan
I'd put Rabelo out there whenever Miller is pitching. Rabelo has caught Miller a few times back in Detroit.

I don't think we should worry about making any major adjustments based on hitting until we really have a decent sample size to compare them. I'd put Rabelo pitching when it was Miller's turn in the rotation. He couldn't be much worse.
