The outfield of Gonzo-Ross-Hermida seems to have performed well enough during Hammer's absence...

We've always Amazing-ger and Jacque "SupaSlugga" Jones as cover...

We've two back up catchers platooning the eight-spot...

Hammer was originally a catcher...

...

...you know what I'm thinking...

...am I nuts for thinking it? Discuss (if yer wanna)...

Hammer cant stay on the field even though he is playing the second to least physically demanding position on the field. How is he suppose to stay on the field when he will be playing arguably the hardest position on the field?

yeah put him to be a Catcher if you want him to retire by 2010.. His back problems do not allow him to be a Catcher, if he is he'll be in a lot of pain which will easily affect his hitting. Leave him in LF he's comfortable there.

Actually (and someone else correct me if I'm wrong), I think Hammer was originally a 3rd or 1st baseman. They put him at catcher to speed up his process to the big leagues.

Signed as a SS, blocked at 1B/3B by Adrian Gonzalez, Jason Stokes and Miguel Cabrera... moved to catcher, became a BA top prospect there, destroyed AAA before he got hurt... came up in 2006 as a starter in LF.... been there since

Whaaaat? Josh was a Shortstop?

Wow.

As much as I wish we could do that (even though he would lose like 1/5th of his ABs), his back just can't hold up to that position anymore.

Actually he was moved around in 2002 to make room for the great SS Cabrera and Josh Wilson. In 03 the Marlins realized they were painfully lacking in the catching dept. and converted him. He has to his credit played 15 games at catcher in his MLB career, but with his history of back troubles he seems to me better off at 1b

I don't think he could hold up for even an entire inning.

Gaby Sanchez was a SS when he signed to UM... Actually, he and Andino were considered the two top SS in the draft out of high school in '02, both from Miami.
