When the Hammer comes back.....

Featured Replies

Fredi should have this lineup when the hammer returns:

1. Hanley Ramirez

2. Cody Ross/Alfredo Amezaga

3. Jorge Cantu

4. Josh Willingham

5. Dan Uggla

6. Luis Gonzalez RF

7. Mike Jacobs

8. Mike Rabelo

BENCH HERMIDA!!!!!

What has been special about Hermida??? Just put Gonzo before he retires and he could help us get us to the playoffs!!!

Rather than putting someone with an OBP lower than Hermida (Cody Ross) in the 2-hole... I'd prefer:

Ramirez

Willingham

Cantu

Jacobs

Uggla

Hermida

Ross

Treanor

I wouldn't bench hermida, just move him around like we did with Uggla and Cantu, and we might get the same results.

Ramirez

Willingham

Cantu

Uggla

Jacobs

hermida

Ross(ALL THE TIME, NO MORE PLATOONING)

treanor

:thumbdown

at least ross and amezaga can bunt and steal bases not like hermida

none of them steal bases. we pretty much only straight steal with hanley. but yeah, hermida pissed me off the other night when he didn't get the bunt down. amezaga is the only one with a real advantage in that bunting situation. so again, amezaga/ross should not bat 2nd.

willingham has great patience at the plate (to allow hanley to steal) and also has contiously had great OBP numbers. He should be our #3 hitter but Cantu is really relishing in that spot so, next best spot for hammer is 2... IMO

I agree Gonzo has done better offensively by only a marginal amount than Hermida so far this year. But, first and foremost is you can't put Gonzo's weak arm out in right field; couple that with Gonzo being just as bad at Hermida at catching routine fly balls and we weaken the outfield defense tremendously.

Also, you have to have some optimism that Hermida is going to turn it on soon, considering he had a torrid last half of the season last year. Whereas Gonzo, you'll continue to get steady below-average production for a right fielder. Gonzo should be relegated to the 4th OF spot when hammer comes back although he has done alright so far this year.

Bunting sucks, Amezaga can only hit for a .250 average against a righty.

Cody Ross doesn't bunt or steal bases. His last bunt was put down in 2006, which was his 3rd. He ended up messing up the bunt and not moving the runner over. He also steals even less than Hermida does.

To me, Hermida's bat is best suited for the 2nd spot. If we do move Hermida down in the order, the only guy I think I'd want in the 2 spot is Gonzalez (but of course that is moot since he'll leave the lineup when Hammer gets back).

We need the higher OBP guys near the top of the lineup.

I really think Gonzo will be an upgrade in hermida in RF

yeah, at the age of 40?, and has no arm. All the qualities for a RF, there, long-term. So lets just bench one of the guys who could be here long-term (Hermida, at his declining age of 24 :whistle ), just b/c he's struggling.

Also...Hermida's never shown that he becomes a better player as the year goes on...nah, never. :whistle

Makes no sense, man. Be a little patient, with the younger guy.

When Hammer comes back, he's still gonna need his rest from time to time...that's where Gonzo's value will become not good, but GREAT.

We've already seen Gonzo give up a ton of extra base due to his weak arm, god forbid that happened in RF, where every long single would become a triple.

Has anyone noticed the amount of runners going from first to third on singles lately? I love Gonzo, but they wouldn't do this if Willingham was out there.

Yeah, and long singles that turn into doubles. Gonzo has been a great replacement, but he has been driving me crazy that weak arm.
