John Gall

Why is john gall and for that matter, dallas mcpherson not up here. john gall is battig 346 even in the hitters league and dallas is really cutting down on the k's lately? Can anyone tell me if john gall is gonna be up this year or if it is going to be one of those val pascucci type of deals.

Andino's presence just baffles me, we already have a better, more versatile version of Andino in Amezaga... so, my only grasp at an idea is that they're doing their best to groom Andino to replace Amezaga because they plan on trading him, but that doesn't make a ton of sense if only because you can sell some semblance of youth and upside with Andino (who knows if anyone would buy that, but yeah)

Gall and/or McPherson (my preference as I've stated before) should be up here, but it's pretty much imperative that we keep 13 pitchers on this staff, meaning only 4 bench guys... Amezaga, Helms, Rabelo and Andino currently are those guys..

Obviously it'd be Andino going down when Hammer comes back, but I think we're out of options (or darn close) with Andino, so, this is really his last shot to stick

This is Andino's last option year. He can be called up/down an infinite number of times this year. He doesn't run out of options until next season.

I would have liked to seen Dallas up for this DH stretch, but if he's not going to play everyday up here, I'd rather him be down in AAA considering he didn't play at all last year.

I'd also perfer to see Gall up instead of Andino for the same reason, I want andino playing everyday. And IIRC we're at 39 men on the 40 right now.

john gall really deserves the call up. he can actually hit a curve ball unlike half of our team

I don't think the DH thing is an altogether bad idea, but I don't mind them using it to give some guys a day off from the field and keep the guys who are on our major league team sharp.

Because Andino is a Beinfest player.

hmmmm, 2nd post of this fashion. El Penguino what is going on ?

See the other thread.

For the record, I use this expression rather frequently to describe questionable moves that happen to follow a similar paradigm.

Every time I see Andino called up I figure it is to show case him for future trade bait. Then he dosen't get used. It's a head scratcher.

I would rather see what Dallas can do here in the DH for this trip. But I also like the idea of resting some gloves while keeping some guys sharp with the bat. And I really wouldn't mind seeing more of Cantu at 1B.

Thanks, I shall look in the other thread. I happen to agree with you on this issue, but had been avoiding vocalizing it in a thread because of the beat-downs I have gotten before when I have given my opinions.

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."

Andino has major league nose picking ability

Andino is up because, as some want to argue, a strikeout is better than making contact because making contact allows you to hit into double plays. Thus, Andino, no contact, no DP.

I highly doubt Andino is going to attract any worthwhile talent. Especially any talent that would likely outweight the detriment he places by simply being a weak bat on the ML roster. Well, that's going a bit far, but I do think it's pointless to shop him when he's had a less than spectacular career and his 2008 at bats more than anything else are proving that he can't hit ML pitching.

Because Andino is a Beinfest player.

You say that alot. Will you explain to me what that means?

Question's already been asked and answered.

No, you just said it is a phrase you use when a move is made that follows a "similar paradigm".

I actually want you to explain what it means. What constitutes a "Beinfest Player" ala Rabelo, Andino, Hendrickson, and "not a Beinfest Player", such as Jacobs, Uggla, Ramirez, Cantu, Willingham, Maybin, Hermida, et al.?

Can't disagree with your points. But the fact is we don't really have a spot for him on this team. Now or in the future. He could most likely be a starting SS or 2B on some teams. But we sure won't get alot for him unless he starts showing he has learned to hit ML pitching. It's kind of a Catch 22 thing. We have put alot of $$$ into this kid so it makes no sense to just let him slip away or fade away in AAA. So my guess is that he continues to get the opportunities and be up here in front of guys that probably would be better suited. It's the only thing I can come up with as a reason for his yo-yo year(s).

The most important thing is that he should be getting consistent at-bats, which he can't do up here... like you said, it's a catch-22, because we aren't willing to just let him get his ABs in the minors for whatever reason, we're doing a heck of a job diminishing any value he may have.

"My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute."

For the record....I got this. I guess I should say, "Who is John Gall?"

I don't really see a problem with Andino being up...with him, we have two guys on the bench who can play SS/2B, and one of those guys splits time in CF. Andino seems to have the defensive ability to play those positions, and that is really what I want for a backup middle infielder, particularly when our starting middle infielders are arguably our two best players on the team and will play as many games as they can barring injury. Cantu is on pace to hit .280 with 30HRs. I sincerely doubt the Marlins will make a switch to McPherson, when they can leave him in the minors all year and, if he continues to hit, bring him up with the rosters expand in September for the final stretch.

If the Marlins are trying to market him, they are better off doing that with him in AAA. Give him ABs with the big club and he'll simply demonstrate further that he can't hit ML pitching and will hurt the team in the process.

Give him consistent ABs in the PCL and maybe some team will express interest.
