A trade for a CF/C on the same team?

Featured Replies

Florida has shown initial interest in Rockies catcher Yorvit Torrealba, and center fielders Willy Taveras and Scott Podsednik. With the emergence of Chris Iannetta this year, the Rockies would listen to offers for Torrealba, who is signed through next year. With Taveras, Podsednik and Ryan Spilborghs at the major league level and Cory Sullivan at Colorado Springs, the Rockies have a surplus in center field. rocky mountain news

Ill doubt thell trade splillbourgs cuz hes red hot and ianetta is good but hes there futue catcher

torrialba is a so so hitter great defensively

but they wouldnt trade taveres and posednik unless we give them a maybin or some1 thats projected to be good

no good

plus we dont need an outfielder we only need a catcher

and some bullpen help

Edit: alot of bullpen help

I'm happy with Cody at center...and none of those guys are better than Cody... I would take a catcher though...

It's hard to tell a) what effect Coors field has on Taveras' numbers as we've all seen this weekend Coors is custom-made for a burner like him but b) one has to wonder whether last season was a freak because so far this season he can't even get on base at a .300 OBP clip and if you're a burner and base-stealer, you have to get on base to be of any value.

Also if we need a catcher so much, why the hell aren't we giving Baker a shot already? Did he sleep with Beinfest's wife or something?

Is that really much of an upgrade at center?

CODY, CODY, CODY

amen cody cody cody

Don't look now, but with an OPS of 827, Cody trails only Aaron Rowand (834), Rick Ankiel (866), and Nate McLouth (875) among regular starting NL centerfielders...

He's now got a better OPS than Carlos Beltran (822), Mike Cameron (811). Taveres and Podsednik are sporting OPSs of 604 and 603, respectively. No thanks.

Cody's also been playing real nice defense.

why why why are we looking for a cfer :(

Not to mention he's hitting .447 since June 26.

I'd part ways with Jacobs and Graham Taylor for Fuentes and Torrealba though.

I really doubt the Rockies would want Jacobs considering helton is signed through '11, plus they have better options in the minors (like the guy up right now, koshansky).

Forgot all about Koshansky. As for Helton, the last few years of his career have been pretty injury plagued. Retirement might be an option after this year, especially if he comes back and goes down again after the break.

I consider any post that suggests Cody Ross stop starting in center field absolute blasphemy. The dude has been waiting a long time to be considered a starting caliber outfielder despite some pretty good numbers. Now that he has gotten used to his starting role he has been one of our most productive hitters, and he isn't just hitting homers at a freakish rate, he is hitting a lot of singles and doubles to drive in runs.

Any chance the 'Lins are looking to move Cody to right and part ways with Hermida. As stated many times, none of the CF's mentioned seem to be improvements over Ross. BTW, Rosenthal is reporting that we're now looking at Kenny Lofton.

Even without Helton, they have guys like Ian Stewart and Jeff Baker who could easily be starting at 1B and could develop the production to play there.

Seems extremely doubtful to me. Selling Hermida now would be selling for less than pennies on the dollar.

There have been several rumors surrounding Hammer though, and considering his injury problems and defense, but still high value from his good offense, he likely would be the best chip to trade. Atleast one of the three likely won't be here next year considering all three are arbitration eligible, possibly even two gone. Considering Hammer's back, selling on him would probably be the best option, and then you would have a competition of Raynor and Cody next year competiting for LF (Or if Maybin still isn't ready, Raynor in center/cody in LF).

What's wrong with Treanor? He's been solid behind the plate. Besides our weakness is pitching not offense.

I agree. I'm baffled at why everyone is so adament about getting a catcher when we obviously have bigger fish to fry (no pun intended).

All good points. Would hate to lose Hammer's bat.

Cody Ross is making our CF look great right now, specially with the bat. We can battle it out with Treanor at Catcher, but we should give Baker a call. Our Bullpen is the only problem right now IMO, and Gregg is leading that pack.
