July 6, 200817 yr I wouldn't be suprised if they traded Taveras. I would love to get him. It's like getting another Jaun Pierre. I am not very high on Torreabla though, he has struggled through injuries, and his bat hasn't showed up this year. Maybe last year was a fluke because it was a contract year.

July 6, 200817 yr Yeah I think Ross has earned his right to be our starting CF. We do need to handle the catcher situation though. I know Lo Duca's name has been thrown around here and there, but i think we can do better if we really tried.
July 7, 200817 yr The more I look at Torrealba's stats, the less impressed I become. They are very average, especially for a guy who plays at Coors.

It's almost a different game played there even with the humidor-treated baseballs. I'm fascinated how they've decided to manicure the field, long in the infield and short in the outfield so the outfielders can play deep.

July 7, 200817 yr Quietly, the Marlins (through the Isotopes) have acquired Tommy Murphy a legitimate centerfielder who through no fault of his own had the misfortune of being in the Angels organization at a time when it seemed outfielders grew on trees. Through his last couple of seasons with the Angels BA listed him as the organization's best athlete, he's spent time at the major league level but each time sent back down when a Juan Rivera or other player ahead of him on the depth chart returned from the DL, etc. Not unlike Willits, Quinlan, Evans and Gorneault, with the "named" players ahead of them he was never going to play MLB so this may be a chance for him if there is either an injury or trade or both. To give you some indication of how bad it is for 2nd tier active roster players in LA, Willits (who finished fifth in balloting for ROY in the AL last season *while sporting a .293 BA/.382 OBP*) has 60 ABs so far this year and is used almost exclusively as a pinch-runner. Whether it's just another MiLB signing or it means something I'm not sure but it may have some significance as we approach the trading deadline.
July 7, 200817 yr Cody is our CF, 15 RBI's in 4 games just about makes it impossible to talk any sort of trash about him right now
July 7, 200817 yr Cody is our CF, 15 RBI's in 4 games just about makes it impossible to talk any sort of trash about him right now I suspect you misunderstood the reason for my post. It certainly wasn't to trash Ross. If he continues the kind of production he's shown since he began to play regularly he doesn't have to worry about a spot in the lineup.
July 7, 200817 yr Why not make a deal for one of seattles C (Suzuki or clement) and Ichiro to play RF or CF. Maybe- and i like the guy- Hermida (i like) Tucker (i like) Andino and a low A player with high ceiling I'm sure Ichiro would be the best leadoff in the NL, with Ramirez at 2nd or 3rd behind him. Can't pitch around ichiro if ramirez and uggla are behind him. Set that table for the big bats.

Can't pitch around ichiro if ramirez and uggla are behind him. Set that table for the big bats. And how would we pay Ichiro? He just signed a monster contract last year, plus he's getting older. Ichiro is perfect for Seattle, honestly. They might be over paying him, but with all his endorsements and popularity they are getting that money right back I bet. They can afford him, we can't. I would love to go after Clement, but you're looking at one of our better prospects being dealt in exchange.
July 8, 200817 yr I love the Marlins trading for Ichiro after Sampson's comments. I severely doubt clement will be traded. From what I've read, the Japanese owners are looking to sell their shares, at which point Jojima will likely be dumped off. And we cannot handle Jojima's contract, so no he would not be dumped off here (3 years, 24m).
