Pitching Rotation after break

Featured Replies

I was wondering what our rotation will look like after the break. The first 2 are easy, Nolasko and olsen but after that im unsure. I guess miller, jj, volstad. Or JJ, miller, volstad.

Hopefully with we can take the series vs the phils after the break with nolasko and olsen going.

I like how you spelled Nolasco with a 'K'... just seems appropriate

:D

I'd take Nolasco-Olsen-JJ-Miller-Volstad

Nolasco and Olsen are interchangeable although I'd like to see the lefties not back to back. I think Volstad belongs at #5 until he starts proving himself and let's just hope JJ returns nicely and doesn't get re injured.

Nolasco- Johnson-Olsen-Sanchez(Volstad till return)- Miller

Everyone seems to forget where getting Anibel back in 2-3 weeks..He had a nice rehab outing last night in Jupter as well...In 2006 he was lights out against our NL East rivals...I am rather looking foreword to seeing him in the rotation for the aug-sept run for the playoffs.

I'm going with Olsen - Nolasco - Miller - Johnson - Volstad.

Miller has had an ERA in the mid 3s since May, while JJ hasn't pitched a game yet, so I put Andrew in the 3 spot. After that, I put Olsen in the front to split the lefties.

As long as its a Oly-Noly 1-2 punch, it really doesn't matter what order they are on... but it would be great to have Noly pitching that Saturday game that's on Fox.

Nolasco- Johnson-Olsen-Sanchez(Volstad till return)- Miller

JJ has had 0 starts, and you are ready to put him in the 2 spot?

You could prolly switch Olsen and JJ and it would work out well...I have just allways seen Olsen as a # 3 starter and JJ as 1 or 2 guy...You do have a good point. As far as struggling coming off the DL i'm actually more worried about Anibel then I am JJ...JJ seemed to have his stuff working in the rehab starts especially his last one.

actually if Gonzales is a left righty guy then .. Nolasco, Olsen, JJ, Miller, Sanchez would work too

I always forget that sanchez is coming back so soon. But yeah olsen nolasko are interchangable and then id go with jj sanchez miller.

I dont think Volstad will have a spot once Anibal Sanchez returns.

Depending on how Volstad functions, it's going to be a tough decision. He has 4 or 5 starts before Ani is ready to make his case.

Nolasco

Olsen

JJ

Miller

Volstad

If Volstad falters then the team will use off days to skip the 5 spot until Sanchez returns.

Volstad could always be send to the bullpen, and another struggling arm in there sent down (or released in the case of Hendrickson).

Volstad should be starting no matter what.

Plus, I'm not 100% positive on this, but have there been any real successful sinker ball pitchers in the pen? I mean, the pitch itself is built to start, not for relief.

If we're in a situation where all 5 are performing well, I probably would have voted Nolasco for the pen but he's been going SO deep into games, so I'd probably go with JJ instead. Gregg probably won't lose closer job regardless, but if one of them could become a dominant setup man that'd be huge.

Chad Bradford comes to mind, I'm sure I could come up with a few more, but you're right, it's the exception not the rule

If JJ and volstad are performing good by the time sanchez comes back, I'd love to see him in the pen. it probably wont happen, but i think it's more suitable for him to come out of the pen, JMO.

I agree with this, it would allow him to get back into the groove of things... of course, building up arm strength in the minors at this point would kind of null that...

But having:

Olsen

Nolasco

Miller

Volstad

JJ

Sanchez

The two most likely to go into the pen at this point are the last two, it'll be a function of their ability to give quality innings though

Ohhh, I think I'm gonna start doing that too.

If JJ and Sanchez return to their 2006 form:

1. Nolasco

2. JJ

3. Sanchez

4. Olsen

5. Volstad

And if Mitre returns to his 2006 form, insert him in the #5 spot and make plans for a Marlins' playoff and WS run.

The rotation depending on output could line-up with:

1.Nolasco

2.Olsen

3.Volstad

4.Johnson

5.Miller

This way you break up the kids between Johnson, they could even switch Volstad and Miller but I wouldn't throw lefties back to back.

It feels good imagining the rotation with Sanchez and Mitre coming back soon, sends a message to all of the starters throw well or go to the pen or Albuquerque.
